"Roderich! Look at me when I'm talking to you!" demanded a rather annoyed swiss man. Roderich, a rather fancy dressed austrian man, removed his gaze from the sky and regrettably looked across to his friend. "What is it that you want?" Roderich asked in a rather bitter tone. The two men sat across one another at a small café near the boarder of Austria. Normally the two would not converse in public but today just happened to be a nice day, so outside they went.
"I was trying to give advice to you on ____," Basch retorted with a sour look on his face, "but if you're not even going to listen, then why did you ask in the first place?" Roderich furrowed his brows and said coldly, "all I wanted was a yes or no answer but you decided to go in depth." Basch gritted his teeth, biting his tongue as he tried his best not to snap at the snobby austrian. "I don't know why I even decided to have tea with you," Basch fumed.
The waitress appeared, wearing a simple white apron, jeans and a black work polo. She carried a small tray with two tea cups, a tea pot, and two plates with a small cake slice to the table. Roderich looked up and smiled over at her, completely ignoring Basch's previous comment. "Here you go, guys," the waitress said as she gently placed the cups in front of either of the men before putting the tea pot in the center of the table.
"Strawberry tort for you," she said lifting up the plate with a golden orange cake like pastry with strawberries and whipped cream on top. Placing it in front of Roderich as he said, "thank you." She then lifted a little square cut pastry with raspberries and blueberries in it with whipped cream on top and said, "and the raspberry and blueberry short read for you." Basch looked down at his shortbread and sighed a audible, "thanks." She then pulled a bunch of folded paper napkins out her apron pocket and placed them on the table.
"Basch," she said with a chuckle, "you don't have to be scared to try our other pastries. They're all really good, promise." The waitress rested the empty tray close to her chest as she smiled down to Basch. Basch's cheeks dusted a soft pink as he looked away with a huff, "I like this one the most and I don't plan to change it."
Roderich looked over at the waitress and said, "good morning, _____. Has the morning rush finally calmed?" Her smile seemed to radiate a happy glow as she answered, "yea, it's finally quite again! Also, I'm glad the two of you are getting along again." Basch looked up as he placed his fork in his hand, "I wouldn't go that far." ____ chuckled then leaned over to Roderich and kissed his cheek. Roderich continued to smile as ____ stood up and spun around to go attend another table, "I'll see you later, Roderich~ You two enjoy!"
As she waltzed over to the table across the room Basch studied Roderich's expression as it still held it's oddly joyous look. "So, to answer your question simply," he said as he cut off a corner of the shortbread cake with the side of his knife, "yes, you should propose. It's obvious you wouldn't mind living forever with her." Roderich looked back to Basch and nodded, "alright then. I'll ask tonight." Basch stabbed into his shortbread cake and brought it to his lips, taking the pastry into his mouth. As he chewed, Roderich elegantly cut a corner off his strawberry tort and ate it.
When Basch swallowed, tired of the weird chewing sounds, he said, "did you get a ring?" Roderich nodded as he swallowed and sipped at his tea. "Yes, it looks rather nice and it was a bit expensive for your taste," he said before he sipped at his warm tea again. Basch twitched at Roderich's emphasis of the word your. "I can buy expensive things!" he retorted, offended by Roderich's referring at him being cheap, "I just happen to prefer the inexpensive things better..." Roderich chuckled through his nose as he took another bite of his strawberry tort.
"No need to be defensive, I was just joking," he said as he adjusted his glasses. Basch sighed then had another taste of his shortbread cake and refused to say another word. Roderich, on the other hand, was fine with the silence and unconsciously looked over at ____ as she went behind the café counter and started to make tea. Without him knowing, a smile was on his face the whole time.
