TWO PRESENCE

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” – Arisotle

The mansion was eerily quiet, the kind of silence that enveloped every room, broken only by the faint sound of his footsteps echoing down the hallway.

Eiser had spent hours in his office, surrounded by paperwork, phone calls, and the weight of his family's business.

The mafia world demanded his attention at all hours, but tonight, something felt different.

He'd been so absorbed in his work, in his responsibilities, but now he needed to see her. Needed to break the silence that stretched between them since she’d arrived at the mansion.

His thoughts were a blur of everything he'd been doing and everything that awaited him.

But Esmé... she had been on his mind more than he liked to admit.

As he left the office and stepped into the dimly lit hallway, he saw the grand staircase at the far end.

The soft glow of chandeliers lit up the space, casting shadows along the walls. He paused, just for a moment, to gather himself.

He wasn’t sure what he was going to say to her—he didn’t often think about such things—but the urge to see her, to be near her, was undeniable.

Maybe it was the loneliness of the mansion, or maybe it was the fact that her presence had become a quiet comfort.

As he walked toward the main hallway, the sound of his footsteps muffled on the thick carpet, he found himself glancing over to the grand windows, where the moonlight seeped through, casting a pale light on the marble floors.

It felt like the whole mansion was waiting for him to return to it, but more importantly, to return to her.

He stopped just before the entrance to the sitting room, where he knew Esmé had often been.

He saw her there, sitting by the window, a shawl wrapped around her shoulders, looking out at the cold night.

Her profile was soft in the dim light, her features highlighted in the quiet stillness of the night.

She hadn’t noticed him yet.

Eiser hesitated for a moment, his hand resting lightly on the doorframe. The sight of her, so peaceful and yet distant, stirred something within him.

Finally, he stepped forward, his voice breaking the silence. “Esmé.”

Her head turned, and for a moment, their eyes locked.

“You’ve been quiet tonight,” Eiser remarked, his tone softer than usual.

Esmé smiled faintly but didn’t answer right away. There was an air of distance, one that Eiser couldn’t quite understand.

But something in her gaze, something in the way she looked at him, told him she was waiting for something more.

Esmé remained still, her gaze lingering on the dark garden outside, the cold wind gently rustling the leaves.

She had heard his footsteps, but it wasn’t until his voice cut through the quiet that she turned to face him.

She didn’t immediately speak, her lips pressing into a tight line as she tried to gather her thoughts.

“I didn’t mean to disturb your work,” Esmé said, her voice softer than usual.

Eiser didn’t respond right away, instead walking toward her slowly, his footsteps silent on the marble floor.

His eyes stayed fixed on her, studying the way she held herself—slightly withdrawn, but still... present.

It was a mixture of emotions that he didn’t quite understand.

He stood beside her, close but not touching, and let the silence stretch out between them for a moment.

The stillness in the room felt thick, as though they were both waiting for something to shift.

“You’re not disturbing anything,” Eiser replied, his voice low and steady.

He allowed a soft sigh to escape him, his hand brushing against the back of his neck. “I just... I just wanted to see you.”

Esmé's heart raced as Eiser's gaze dropped to her lips, his hand now resting gently on her cheek. She felt a warmth spreading through her chest, the way he was looking at her.

Her breath caught as Eiser slowly closed the space between them, his lips brushing against hers in a soft tentative kiss. It was gentle at first as if both of them were unsure of how to proceed.

But as the seconds ticked by, the kiss deepened, more urgent now, his hand sliding from her cheek to her back, pulling her closer.

Esmé's hands moved instinctively, one finding its way to his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart.

Eiser's hand slid to the back of her neck, his fingers threading through her hair as he deepened the kiss.

Breaking the kiss, Eiser took a breath, his forehead resting against hers, both of them catching their breath. Esmé's eyes fluttered open, meeting his gaze.

"You don't have to," Eiser whispered, his voice hoarse. "But I can't seem to stop myself."

Esmé took a deep breath, her fingers gently trailing down his chest, feeling the muscles beneath his shirt. Her voice barely above a whisper, trembled as she spoke. "I want this, Eiser, I do."

It was all they needed to hear. Slowly, Eiser lifted her into his arms, carrying her upstairs to his master bedroom with a quiet determination.

When he placed her on the bed, he hovered over her, his hands gently pushing aside the shawl that had fallen from her shoulders.

The cool night air seemed to kiss her exposed skin, and she shivered slightly, her body reacting to the touch of his touch.

Eiser's eyes were dark with desire, but there was also something tender in the way he looked at her, a gentleness that was almost at odds with the intensity of the moment.

"Are you sure?" He asked, his voice low, his breath hot against her skin.

Esmé's response was a soft, breathless nod. She reached for him, pulling him closer again. The words no longer mattered.

At this moment, they didn't need to speak. The quiet intimacy between them was enough.
