Mate Trials (Something to Believe In Parachute)

First Day of Freshman Year

"Are you ready for this?" Natalie, my best friend since our first pack meeting only two weeks after shed been born (I was the older of us two), squeaked with excitement as we neared the entrance to the high school building. Her sky blue eyes like saucers and her long, straight platinum blonde hair flying behind her like a mane as she dragged me onwards towards the building with a vice-like grip on my arm. We were both werewolves and part of the same pack, the Delta clan, named after my family. My father was the alpha, my mother the alpha-female. My younger brother, Vince, was going to be alpha one day. Me, I was supposed to mate with some alpha of another pack to keep my parents happy.

"Its a little bit too late to turn back now even if I wasnt." I replied with a roll of my eyes. But a smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I struggled not to grin at her enthusiasm to finally be in high school. Shed only been dreaming of this moment since we were in sixth grade.

"I wouldnt let you skip anyway, C. I need your support. " Natalie suddenly looked apprehensive and slowed to a stop only a meter away from the double doors. She chewed her bottom lip and let go of my arm.

"No you dont, Nat. Think about it. Youre the one that hasnt quit talking about this day all summer. Youre the one that collected our class schedules last week when only five other people came in too. Youre the one that had to drag me out of bed this morning because I couldnt be bothered to start waking up early again. You dont need me. If anything, I need you." I murmured quietly as students continued to walk around us so they could get into school.

Natalie opened her mouth to, no doubt, protest but a long ringing sound cut her off. The bell.

"Ill see you third period, okay?" Natalie said instead.

"Yep," I replied popping the p. And then as an after-thought I added with a wink, Good luck.

"You need it more than me, remember? " Nat said with a massive grin before opening the door and disappearing into the mass of people making their way down the hallways.

I sighed before following after her but whereas she took a right and headed towards English I, I continued straight ahead towards algebra I. Id already studied the school map Nat had given me along with my schedule yesterday so I had my route to each lesson already planned out in my mind. It seemed I wouldnt get to visit my new locker for the first time until later.

I kept walking until I reached room 203 my algebra classroom. I stepped into the room and made my way over to a seat that was third row back from the front and beside the window so I had some entertainment for the duration of the semester.

Only thirty seconds later, a girl with ginger hair that was the same color as a flame, approached me with a tentative smile as if she thought I was going to sneer at her and tell her to back the fuck off. I wasnt a bitch though.

"Hi, Im Chelsea, "she said with a small voice. "Can I sit next to you?"

"Sure. Im Cora, but my friends call me C." I answered with a bigger smile to try and appease her worry. She was human, I could tell by one sniff.

"Thanks," Chelsea beamed at me before taking the seat next to me.' My friends call me Chels."

At the same time as the bell rang, two boys stepped through the door. They were both werewolves I could smell it even from across the classroom. When my eyes landed on the boy who arrived first, they widened. He had short black hair and was wearing dark blue jeans with a denim jacket. But it was his eyes that when they glanced up and locked on my eyes, wouldnt let me go. They were a deep ocean blue, so dark, in fact, that it was hard to tell where his iris finished and his pupil started. They held a depth that made me want to dive in and swim in them forever.
