A Few Months Ago :

" You're the one who doesn't talk to me!" I screamed, my voice sounding so different, even to my own ears. I felt my heart pound heavily against my chest, the outside air, that had moments earlier been a summer breeze, seemed to fill up with heat, as I heaved for breath. My appearance was ruined, with tear stained mascara cheeks, and my sweated falling off my shaking form.

" I gave up everything for you!" I stated bitterly, staring into his black eyes. " Everything I believed in! The people I love! Just for what!" I through my hands in the air, defeat consuming me. " For you to reject me?"

As I said it , I felt the pain hit me even harder than it had the first time I understood it. " How is that fair?" I whispered, backing up slowly. " I love you so much." My voice broke, and I slowly wiped a tear from my eye.

He hung his head, his normal look of power and radiating intimidation gone, and now replace with a cold, blank sad stare.

" You're just gonna let me go aren't you?" I asked, no bitterness, nothing besides stating a mere fact.

And I was right, he stayed silent, and watched as I got into my jeep, and left his home- what was once for a short while, our home.

PRESENT DAY :

I, the mate of the most powerful man on this earth- a lone hybrid werewolf- slaved over a dozen growling beings.

That is, human beings, and more specifically a whole bunch of drunk and tipsy men watching football.

For the last four months I worked at the towns only local bar to make enough money for my nineteen year old self to live on. It didn't matter I got a great amount of money from a not so anonymous man, I chose to put the cash under my bed to be never touched again. I wanted nothing from him, besides him, himself.

" Abby!"

Jumping, I turn around to see Julia - my closest friend I met here, holding my coat in her hands.

" Our shifts over already?" I questioned, setting down my paper and pad.

" It helps if you daze off the whole day.." She teased, but her facial expression showed her worry.

" Sorry." I grinned sheepishly.

" Thinking about him, huh?"

I put on my coat, and bit my lip. " No... of course not. " I lied.

She nodded, knowing that it wasn't true. " Come on! Lets go home and bake some cookies or something."

" Deal." I agreed, and followed her out to my jeep.

It was cold, and the only light came from the bars outside lights. The bar was right outside of town, with out anything else on the dirt road for miles. It was always the same people, with maybe a few outsiders every few weeks. I liked it. It was peaceful.

I had my feet focused on the ground afraid I was going to fall and trip over the random rocks on the dirt parking lot so I hadn't noticed anything off, until Julia commented.

" Abs?" She questioned using her nick-name for me. " Who is that?"

" Who's .."

I froze. It was like that horrible day in july all over again. The way he looked so good. How I could smell his scent, even with my weak human senses. His deeply tanned skin, and strong muscular frame only reminded me of he way he use to make love to me.

All of that ran through my mind , as I watched him, stand up right from leaning on his large, black pick up truck. I was surprised my feet kept walking, even when my breath was gone.
