You and Roan had settled into life at Polis. Lexa had given you a choice assignment as a guard and were often in all her personal meetings. You both became known as Ice Warriors, only everyone knew your story and why you were there. Many looked at you with respect for saving the commander, some looked at you with fear for your display of power, and others looked at you with suspicion, wondering if you truly had joined their side or questioned your loyalty if you had already betrayed your ruler. You ignored them all.
You and Roan had not talked about the night you confessed your attachment. You continued your life as if nothing changed between you. Just two warriors, resigned to life in Polis.
There was a knock on your door, you answered it and saw Lexa, dressed down and holding a large trunk. “I brought you something,” she said, handing the trunk to you.
You opened it and found a range of dark lightweight clothes. “I figured you would need a new wardrobe since Polis is much warmer than Azgeda,” Lexa said with a smile.
“Thank you,” you replied, admiring the clothes.
“They’re a little older,” she said, “they were mine before I was commander, but they should be comfortable.”
“Thank you,” you repeated.
Lexa shuffled her feet, for the first time seeming uncomfortable. “How has it been living here?” she asked.
“Different,” you responded, still sifting through the clothes, “but good.”
“I’m glad,” she responded, “how is Roan adjusting?”
“Adjusting well, heda,” you looked up and saw Roan had entered the room and responded to the question himself.
Lexa looked surprised, but nodded, “excellent.”
Roan moved closer to you, peering over your shoulder at the trunk of clothes. “Lighter clothes,” you said, holding up one of the shirts. Roan nodded with a smile.
Lexa coughed from behind you, moving towards the door, “I will see if I can find some for you too, Roan,” she responded.
“My thanks, heda,” he responded.
Lexa lowered her head to a respectful bow, “Andra,” she said in parting before sliding out of the door.
Roan removed his sword from his side and sat on the bed, “she likes you.”
You nodded, still sifting through the trunk, “I’d hope so, I am her guard.”
“Not like that,” Roan said under his breath but dropped the subject.
You set down the clothes and moved the trunk to the corner of the room before settling down next to Roan. “Lexa is making a trip to the Skaikru camp soon, are you going?”
“If you are,” he responded.
You leaned back, “what does that mean?”
Roan looked at you, “it means I am not letting you leave Polis without me, not with my mother putting a bounty on your head.”
“Only in Azgeda, none of the other clans would dare try to cash it in,” you reassured.
Roan rubbed his temples, “Azgeda soldiers and spies are everywhere, you are not truly safe anywhere,” he paused, “even here.”
“I can handle spies and soldiers,” he retorted.
Roan’s eyes softened, “of course you can but that doesn’t mean I will ever stop protecting you.”
You leaned into him, resting your forehead on his, “I know.”
Roan said nothing, but leaned into your touch. You finally pulled away and resting your head on his shoulder and closed your eyes. Sleeping next to Roan felt right, comforting and you fell into a deep sleep.
