((This chapter is a bit long as it is two chapters put together with Sam and Henry))

 Elliot's POV
"Hey!" Ashley screams, knife in hand and bolting forward to attack the man who has Joel in a chokehold. As I hope through the window, she manages to scratch the guy's arm, but he throws her back into me and we both tumble to the floor like bowling pins.

"What the fuck?" The guy stares at us as I hit my head off the carpet.

While distracted, Joel grabs the back of the guy's head and smacks his head off the wall him. Then like the badass he is, he judo flips the guy onto the floor in front of him and he starts repeatedly using the dude as a fleshy punching bag.

A gun loads to our right and we look to see a boy holding a gun, aiming it straight at Joel. Ashley scrambles off my lap, holding a hand out to him and turning to her still enraged father.

"Joel! Joel, stop!"

Joel does do, looking up to the boy pointing the gun at him.

"Leave him alone," the boy orders, but a shudder accompanies his voice.

Joel slowly moves away from the man on the floor, holding a hand out as he stands, "easy, son. Just take it easy."

"It's alright," the man on the floor says, as I stand beside Ashley, my hand ready to grab my gun at any moment, "they're not the bad guys. Lower the gun," the boy hesitantly does so and the man on the floor sits up, flexing his already bruising arm, "man, you hit hard."

"Yeah, well I was tryna kill you," Joel admits.

Way to break the ice, Joel. You just went and shattered it. I rub the back of my head, a slight headache forming there from when I hit my head off the carpet.

"Yeah," the man nods and we actually manage to get a better look at him. Much like the younger boy, he's dark skinned, with short curly hair. He wears a plain white tank top with light blue, dirty jeans beneath. The boy wears a yellow hoodie with blue jeans. Both have backpacks on their back, much like us. Henry continues, wiping blood from his lip, "I thought you were one of them too. Then I saw her. And then you," he points to me as Ashley looks to me uncertainly, "if you haven't noticed, they don't keep kids around. Survival of the fittest."

"You're bleeding," the boy moves towards his...I wanna say friend or older brother.

"Ah, it's nothing," he shakes his head and starts rooting through the boy's bag, "I'm Henry. This is Sam. I think I caught your name was Joel?"

"Ashley," the girl in front of me introduces and then points her thumb at me, rude, "this is Elliot."

Joel glances at her almost disapprovingly and then turns back to Henry, "how many are with you?"

"They're all dead," Sam responds as Henry starts wrapping a bandage around his arm.

Henry sharply turns to him, "hey, we don't know that," he glances back to us, "there were a bunch of us. Someone had the brilliant idea of entering the city, look for supplies," he flexes his arm, "those fuckers – they ambushed us. Scattered us. Now it's all about getting outta this shithole."

"We can help each other," Ashley suggests – I admire her for wanting to help but we don't know these people yet.

"Ashley," Joel looks to her.

"Safety in numbers and all that," she responds and she glances over to me, wanting backup.

My eyes dart to Joel. She's right with the safety in numbers but...the more of us there are, the more we'll be spotted. We can't exactly just stroll down the street anymore. The hunters are all over us and they'll be keeping an extra eye out.
