In the pavilion, the dim glow of the fire lamps cast flickering shadows, illuminating every face with a warm clarity. After a brief pause, Taehyung began to speak,

“She is no more,” he said, his tone blank. “As you said, she waited for her alpha. She waited for 1,974 years… and then, she passed away.”

Jungkook blinked, his throat tightening as the words sank in. “But…” he stammered, his voice trembling. “I came back in time, didn’t I? Doesn’t that mean… she must still be alive here?”

Taehyung stayed silent, his expression unreadable.

A sudden thought struck Jungkook like lightning. His voice cracked as he asked, “Wait… you were her mate, right?” Tears welled in his eyes, threatening to spill over. His tone grew desperate, almost pleading. “Please… please explain. I-I don’t… I don’t understand…”

Taehyung felt every drop of Jungkook’s tears like blades piercing his chest. Yet, he didn’t move. With a steady voice, he said, “She was my mate. But in my past life—not this one.”

Jungkook’s breath hitched, his eyes widening.

“Yes,” Taehyung continued, his words slow and yet blank. “She waited for her alpha. But her alpha was already gone. She waited 1,974 years, and in the end… she passed away.”

Having said this, Taehyung turned around again, his back facing everyone as he let the cool night air soothe the storm raging within him.

The silence lingered until Namjoon spoke, his voice gentle. “The book you found in the library—the one that brought you here—Ebonmoon was written by her.”

Jungkook’s head snapped toward Namjoon, his eyes wide with confusion.

“She wrote it,” Namjoon explained. “But people say that before she could finish, her last days came. That’s why she wrote everything in brief detail. The book feels incomplete—so many gaps remain.”

Jungkook stared blankly at Namjoon. It was too much. Too many revelations, too many emotions clawing at him all at once. Royal alpha being his mate was already overwhelming. Now there was this—this story of a past life, a witch, a history he didn’t fully understand.

Questions flooded his mind.

How does His Majesty remember all this so clearly? Jungkook wondered.

Every detail—even the exact years she waited. Does he still remember her? Does he still love her… like he did in his past life?

The thought pierced his heart. If he does… then what about me?

His chest tightened as the next thought hit him. What if… what if she returns? To complete her unfinished story? What would happen to me then?

And yet, another fear surfaced: If I can’t be his, will I have to go back to my timeline? But there, I was alone… even in crowds. My family, my friends—no one could fill this gap. Will I end up with someone who isn’t my alpha—someone who isn’t His Majesty—Kim Taehyung?
