3rd person's POV
Sitting behind his desk, Jayden remained silent after listening to Cole's update on the town's situation with the recent rogue attacks.
Random people, even families were mercilessly slaughtered with yet a sure reason as to why.
"I remember you explaining to us about the nemeton. That it...gains power whenever something dies near it? It takes their essence? Is that right?" Maddison asked the Healer.
"That's correct." He replied. "The nemeton's made to capture the essence of every living thing upon death, around it's vicinity. Converting that essence into raw power that's stored within. That's mainly the reason as to why the nemeton can grow to such a large size."
"The power that it stores. What can that it do?" Mikey asked. The others also wanting to know the answer to his question when they glanced towards the Healer.
"Simply putting it, the more essence that it converts and stores, the more possibilities of what that power can do once it's harnessed." He said.
"In other words, we're fucked if someone finds a way to get that power for something...other than good." Mikey had graciously rephrased. "If that's the case, I think we should start focusing more on finding it. We still don't know what our enemies are planning to do with it's power. At least if we keep them from getting to it, we can prevent anything bad from happening."
"Easier said than done I'm afraid." Mr. Anderson told him. "Due to the high amounts of essence that it holds, the nemeton's protected by some sort of magical field that's capable of keeping unwanted from finding it. As long as its essence remains, so will the magical field. And since it's also capable of collecting the essence from a great distance, it'll be near impossible to pinpoint it's exact location."
"Well if our enemies are planning to use it's power, how exactly can they find it while we can't?" Mikey's mate went to ask. "Aaron managed to find the nemeton despite what you just told us so there has to be a way, right?"
"What you just said..." The Healer trailed off. His expression showing realization while the rest looked at each other in confusion.
"Your son wasn't the one who found the nemeton at that time if I remember." He said. "It was a friend of your children. Charlotte Maine."
"Your son found her in some sort of trance in front of the nemeton but it's very clear. It was Charlotte who found it." He added.
"How exactly? And can she try find it again if needed?" Maddison asked.
The Healer was silent for a moment. Contemplating on what to say before finally speaking.
"As you all may already know, Ms. Maine is far from being human. Like you, she's in fact a supernatural. Though it was only recently that she had found out." He said.
"What is she then??" Mikey asked the question that everyone wanted an answer to.
"At first, I didn't know. There are countless possibilities of what she could be but given these revelations I may have and idea of what she could be." He said. "A being thats attracted to the nemeton, a vessel of life's essence after it's death. Ultimately mirroring her ice-cold touch. There's no doubt now that she's a wraith."
"A wraith? I may have little knows about these stuff but aren't wraiths....you know...bad?" Mikey asked him. "I mean I haven't met many wraiths in my life so I don't know
"From what I know, wraiths are mostly born out of dark magic. Ultimately following the bidding of their master up until the very end. They have no emotion, they have no soul. And their only purpose is to serve their master's will." He explained.
