"It's alright, Lana." A familiar voice coaxed in her mind. A voice that she hasn't heard for years- a voice she's been trying hard not to forget."You have to be brave. We'll be okay, " another voice, this time a boy, tells her. His voice shakes and spikes with fear, but she can tell he's trying to mask it.
She can't see them at first; everything is a haze of black and blurred beyond recognition, but deep down, the girl knows these voices. She knows who she's about to see when her vision clears.
The girl feels something heavy in her hand. Her fingers keep flexing around it feverishly like it's slowly burning her skin. Inside her chest, she can feel her heart beating wildly like a tea kettle ready to explode. She doesn't feel fully there, yet immersed completely at the same time.
"Sooner or later Offspring." A man's voice chides from behind her, making her blood freeze.
Alexander Pierce.
No, she knows this memory. This is a nightmare, she's in a nightmare. But Svetlana is trapped, she can't leave it, the drugs have glued her to an unwanted unconsciousness. She can't wake up even if she tries.
Her nostrils flared wide as she sucks in rapid, panicked breaths. She wants to leave, someone needs to wake her up right now. She's been trying to forget, she's been doing so good burying it deep down like her dad always tells her to.
"Sveta you have do it now c'mon." Milo urges.
Svetlana releases a sob as Alexander kicks his shoe into the back of her calf. "Now girl, or we'll make them suffer if you don't do it yourself." He urges.
"Lana, please!" Zerina squeals, curling her fingers over her lips to suppress the sobs that rack her body. Tears are flowing from her eyes like a broken dam.
She can't do it. She won't do it. Milo and Zerina are her family, they're all she has left without her Papa.
"Lana!" Milo snaps, not rudely but in a way that makes the girl jump.
Her head is shaking side to side so fast it makes her dizzy. "Please" She begs Alexander who stands behind her, looking down into her eyes with a soldier like stare.
"God Soldier, just take the gun and aim already!" He yells, wrapping his arms around her arms and aiming for her, keeping her arms up with his like splints for broken bones.
Lana's sobbing now, ugly, heaving sobs are leaving her mouth as snot and tears roll over her opened lips.
Milo and Zerina are whispering words of encouragement, promises that they aren't angry or scared, Svetlana can't hear them but she knows they're lying.
She knows they're lying because who wouldn't be scared? It's obvious at the sight of Zerina's shaking hand intertwined with Milo's.
Her instructions were clear, shoot her partners and walk out with Mr. Pierce. She's never not followed orders, but this is something she can't even think straight enough to complete.
Milo and Zerina have protected her for two years, been there when she was sad, or hurt, or had just gotten beaten. She can't do this to them, it wouldn't be right.
"Now I'm going to get up, and when I do you have five seconds to shoot your little friends or the offer's off the table." Alexander whispers into her ear, his hot breath on her skin making her cringe slightly.
"Please Lana we aren't mad!" Zerina urges.
Svetlana swallows hard as she feels Mr. Pierce's body begin to rise off of hers, meaning she has five seconds to end her friends lives or he'd do it himself and make them suffer 10 times worse.
