DISCLAIMER!

Don't mind the change of prime (') to apostrophe (‘) since I was using Google Docs, and I usually uses prime but it turns into apostrophe in it. Also, I copied the words in the manga (you'll see later). And I wrote half of this here on wattpad before transferring to Google Docs.

. . .

Humming to yourself as you walk around the Ariake Maritime Base, looking up at the metal ceiling as you drown in your thoughts. It had been a year since you and Narumi were accepted into the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. A whole year of battling Kaiju, training relentlessly, and, of course, babysitting Narumi— a job no one had officially assigned you but one you couldn't seem to avoid. He had a knack for dragging you into his whirlwind of chaos, whether it was boasting about his skills, challenging superiors, or simply making a scene during training.

You sighed, a small smile tugging at your lips despite the turmoil happening in your mind. Narumi was a handful, but he was your handful — a thought you'd never admit out loud.

As you turned a corner, your mind drifted to a question that had been nagging you lately: what would your life be like if Narumi hadn't proposed the idea of you joining him to the Defense Force?

Maybe you'd still be at the orphanage, helping the younger kids with their homework, preparing meals, and making sure everyone was taken care of. You'd probably still be attending school, working toward a degree in something practical, something stable. Your days would be simpler, quieter, and far less chaotic.

And lonely.

And free from a world of.. Narumi Gen.

You stopped walking, the thought hitting you harder than you expected. You had been used to loneliness, hadn't you? Growing up in the orphanage, you had learned to depend on yourself, to find comfort in solitude. But ever since you met Narumi…

You had forgotten what loneliness truly felt like. Sure, he was a headache— loud, overconfident, and impossible to ignore — but he was also the help you never realized you needed.

A small laugh escaped your lips as you walked on, your boots clinking softly against the metallic floor. Narumi was an anomaly in your life. The kind of person who bulldozed through your boundaries without a second thought, leaving behind chaos, but also a sense of warmth you hadn't known was missing.

Before meeting him, you'd been content with your quiet routine. The orphanage had been your safe haven, the children your family. But contentment wasn't the same as happiness, was it? Narumi had shown you that. He'd dragged you out of your comfort zone, thrust you into a world of danger and uncertainty, and somehow made you laugh through it all.

"Oh gosh," you suddenly exclaimed, chuckling to yourself as you shake your head from the thought. "Why am I being sentimental over this?" You snorted, continuing to walk through the corridors of the base, the sound of your boots echoing softly off the walls.

It wasn't like you to get all emotional about someone like Narumi, yet here you were, caught in the oddest of reflections. The world was full of people, but Narumi was unlike anyone you'd ever met.

He'd pulled you into this life with all his usual bravado, his persistence relentless, and for a long time, you had tried to push back. But now? You couldn't imagine your days without him. Whether you liked it or not, you had become entwined in his chaotic world, a world you hadn't realized would become your new normal.

It had been a year. A year of all those late-night trainings, the bickering, the laughter in the mess hall, and the way his face lit up after a particularly grueling fight with a Kaiju. You'd seen sides of Narumi no one else had. A side that was dedicated, focused, and surprisingly caring.
