chapter sixty-two alien invasion of earth
𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒.
It's been two years since you flew away on that Quinjet and since I last saw you. Two years since your blue eyes looked down at me and I felt a sense of comfort. I miss you. I miss you more than I can ever describe.
Things here have been hectic. Secretary Ross is still being a complete idiot. He's asked several times if I know where you are, which of course, I don't. This also means I have nowhere to send this...
Grace looked up from the paper and let out a heavy sigh. She played with the pen in her hands, biting her bottom lip. It had been two years since Grace Stark and Steve Rogers said goodbye for a second time, and this time, she had no idea if he was ever coming back.
Two years since Tony learned the truth behind his parents' deaths and two years since he realized just how much his aunt loved Steve.
Even if Tony hated him, he knew that Grace would never be fully happy without him.
But he still couldn't bring himself to pick up the phone that Steve had mailed him and call him.
No matter how much he wished he could.
If anything, for Grace's sake.
Grace turned away from her letter and set it in the growing pile on her desk of other unsent mail before walking out to the common area of the Avengers Compound. It was eerily quiet inside with nobody there to keep her company. Every so often, she would look over when she heard what sounded like the door opening, expecting to see Steve or Adelaide walking inside, only to be met with emptiness.
Where was Adelaide?
She had managed to find Steve while he was on the run and joined them in their low-profile life abroad. She had spent a year away from Pietro and had driven herself crazy that she traveled across the world until she found the group of runaway heroes.
Wanda ended up in Scotland with Vision while Adelaide happily stayed with Pietro, Steve, and Sam. Natasha being there was a bonus.
"Olivia is here."
Grace tore her gaze away from the window that overlooked the green scenery and looked at Happy who stood in the doorway. He looked the same as he did when they first met. But Grace had changed.
For the first time in seventy-two years, Grace had changed.
Grace looked down at the sealed envelope in her hands, letting out a breath as she slit it open. Inside was a single piece of paper with Steve's familiar handwriting filling the page.
Gracie —
I know I may be the last person you want to talk to, but... Do you remember T'Challa, the man from Wakanda? Well, I suppose he's King now. Anyway, he mentioned briefly to me that his sister is a scientist who works with advanced technology, nothing that I can even try to explain in a letter. I was there when Bucky decided to re-enter Cryofreeze and asked if he could do me a favor.
