TW: mentions of gore and death

-------------------------------------------

"Why are you dressed like that?"

You sweat, avoiding his suspicious gaze, "I'm uh.."

"Are you the one Rashta hired?" He sighs, rubbing his temples. Now that you look at him, he looked tired, absolutely exhausted. The bags under his eyes are deeper than you remember, the dark circles more prominent than before. His hair is disheveled, strands pointing in all directions.

"You know of what she's been doing?" You raise an eyebrow, crossing your hands.

He doesn't respond, only continuing to soothe the magraine he seemingly has. "I don't want to fight right now, ( y/n )" He sighs, "Look, I can't be bothered, okay? I have a lot of work to do and I really don't need this."

You don't give him the privilege of a response, only staring at him. He stares to the side, as if the cogs in his brain are starting to turn and he's suddenly gained a bright idea. His gaze then shifts to you, finger rubbing his chin.

"Can..Can you do me a favor?"

You raise an eyebrow at the audacity he had to ask you, out of all the people in the world, for a favor. You open your mouth to spit words from the deepest depths of your heart, but he cuts you off.

"I know! I know I haven't been the best friend you needed me to be, but this last chance. Just give me this one chance of forgiveness and I promise Rashta won't bother anyone from the Western Empire again." He looks desperate, a look you've never seen on him before.

"Fine, but you have to do me a favor in exchange too."

You couldn't believe you were doing Sovieshu a favor—a favor that was out of the good of his heart

You couldn't believe you were doing Sovieshu a favor—a favor that was out of the good of his heart. A favor that wouldn't piss you off, but instead give you more advantage on his mistress, the same woman he had defended like an idiot.

So their relationship really is deteriorating. But how was that your problem? You wouldn't give two shits even if they broke up.

He told you that Rashta had plans to kidnap Lebetti, Viscount Roteshu's only Daughter to get revenge, and the favor you had to do for him was to simply save the poor girl.

You couldn't understand. Saving her would only help you in collecting evidence against the Empress, and it would do him no good. Perhaps this was his way of apologizing for his deeds, or his way of telling you he has realized what type of woman he's turned Rashta into.

You're pulled out of your thoughts when you hear the first hired mercenary forcibly grab the red haired teen by her arms, dragging her towards his carriage. She kicks and cries, crying out for help, but the place was desserted, void of anyone who could possibly hear her.

Pulling out your dagger, you sneak behind the assailant before shoving off his hood and grabbing his hair in one motion, pulling his hair backwards as your other hand holds the blade to his throat. He grunts, unmoving as to not get cut.
