I never thought that one day I would stand in front of the mirror, look into my own eyes, and see myself as a stranger. Faded memories, chaotic emotions, all like a storm swirling in my mind.
__________
The white light from the ceiling made me close my eyes. My head hurt like it was being hammered, and maybe because I hadn't seen light for a long time, everything around seemed blurry and unclear. I tried to remember what had happened, but only disjointed and fragmented memories flooded my mind.
The sharp pain in my head made me more alert and I realized I was lying in a hospital. The steady beeping of the machines beside me reminded me that I was still alive. But why was I here? So many questions swirled in my head, but there were no answers.
I looked around the room and saw my group members standing there, looking at me with worried eyes. I recognized my groupmates, but there was a large gap in my memory. Everything was familiar, yet there was something strange that I couldn't pinpoint.
"Hanbin, you're awake!" Hyuk said with a trembling voice. "Do you remember what happened?"
I shook my head, feeling overwhelmed by helplessness. "I... I don't remember clearly. Why am I here? Why do you all look different?"
Hyuk held my hand, the warmth from his hand reaching me but unable to dispel the storm inside. "Hanbin, your head injury... I'm sorry, if I had gone with you that day, this wouldn't have happened," Hyuk said, tears falling.
Hyuk's tears dripped onto the back of my hand. I quickly grabbed a tissue from the bedside table, lifted his face, and wiped his tears. There was one thing I could never explain, the feeling of my heart being squeezed when I saw Hyuk's tears.
Right after that, I heard Hyeongseop's voice, "Maybe you were attacked that night. Someone saw you and called the police, then you were taken to the hospital. It's been a week since then, hyung."
Seop's words hit me like a shock, making me feel dizzy and extremely confused. "Attacked? Who attacked me? Why don't I remember anything?"
Everyone looked at me with sympathetic eyes, and since no one spoke up, I felt a bit anxious. "Hanbin, the doctor said you lost part of your memory due to the head injury," Lew explained. "But luckily, you didn't forget everything, so don't worry, we'll help you remember everything."
Even though I didn't want to, hearing the comforting words from my groupmates, tears suddenly started to flow from the corners of my eyes. I still couldn't believe everything that was happening, it all seemed like a dream.
I tried to calm down, starting to piece everything together. Failing to search every corner of my memory, I looked around to find something that could decode my confusion. The first thing I noticed was the significant change in my groupmates. In my memory, Hyuk was a cute white puppy with pink hair, but now he looked much more muscular, and his hair had turned blue. Lew's hair had changed from brown to white, and all the other members had noticeable changes compared to the images in my memory. I gradually accepted this reality, that I had lost a part of the beautiful memories of my life.
I was still Hanbin, but strangely, I felt like I was lost in my own mind, not knowing how to find what was lost. The lack of a part of my memory made me feel really uncomfortable. I couldn't stop thinking about the stolen memories, about the pieces of my life, now all just an indefinite void.
I felt Hyuk squeeze my hand tightly, his eyes filled with determination. "We will find the truth, Hanbinie. But I think we need to be very careful, as we still haven't found the person who attacked you."
Hyuk's words sent a shiver down my spine. I knew that the journey to regain my memories would not be easy, and it might be more dangerous than I imagined. But I couldn't stop. I had to find the truth, no matter how frightening it might be.
Fear and uncertainty flooded my heart, but along with it came a sense of relief and comfort knowing that Hyuk and the other members were by my side. I wouldn't have to face this alone.
Hyuk's hand gently wiped away the tears on my cheeks, and I felt the warmth and reassurance in his eyes. "We will always be here for you, Hanbinie." His gentle voice was like a soothing melody, calming my heart.
I looked into Hyuk's eyes, feeling the sincerity and affection from him. In that moment, I felt a bit of comfort, a bit of hope, like flames warming my soul, a lighthouse guiding me through the vast, foggy ocean. Even though my memories were lost, my heart still beat strongly, and I could still feel the genuine affection from the members, like rays of light penetrating every cell, illuminating and soothing my soul. And that gave me the strength to keep fighting, to continue living and dreaming, and to find what was lost.
