The day of the fake marriage between Nitya and Samir had been planned as a temporary solution—a charade to keep up appearances for Prisha’s health and to protect Samyak from feeling guilty about the reality of his relationship with Prisha. But things had taken an unexpected turn, and the facade of a fake engagement turned into something far more permanent and damaging.
The wedding ceremony had ended, and Nitya found herself standing beside Samir as her husband. The whole event had felt surreal, a tangled web of emotions and deceit. Though she had agreed to this plan, she never truly expected it to be anything more than a temporary lie. But as the evening unfolded, she began to realize that this was no longer just a pretense. This was real.
What Nitya didn’t know was that Samir, in his quiet determination, had taken matters into his own hands. In a well-thought-out move, he had not only changed the nature of their wedding but had also altered the documents. The marriage they had just completed, which everyone believed to be fake, was now a legitimate marriage, with real legal implications. Samir had made sure that the divorce documents Samyak and Nitya had signed, believing them to be merely symbolic, were altered into a real divorce agreement.
Prisha, ever the manipulator, had been secretly involved in the plan. She had watched from the sidelines, thrilled by the unfolding drama and overjoyed that Samyak's actions had now become even more complicated. To her, this was the perfect opportunity to claim victory—Nitya had been removed from Samyak’s life for good, and Samyak’s guilt would ensure that he never fully recovered from the emotional wreckage.
As the night wore on, the final part of the plan was set in motion. The family had been unaware of the changes to the documents, believing that everything had been orchestrated to protect Nitya. But when the wedding ceremony concluded, Samir pulled out the legal papers and handed them over to Samyak, revealing the shocking truth.
Samyak had been with Prisha when he was summoned into a quiet room. His head spun as Samir laid the papers in front of him, his voice steady but carrying a weight of consequence.
"Samyak," Samir began, his tone serious, "you need to see this."
Confused, Samyak looked down at the documents. His heart stopped when he realized that they weren’t the documents for a fake marriage. They were real. Samyak’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What is this? This is... this is a legitimate marriage certificate. Why—"
"Why, you ask?" Samir interrupted, his voice surprisingly calm but filled with an underlying anger. "You think I’d let Nitya stay in this lie for one more day? No. She deserves better, Samyak. She deserves someone who will not only honor her, but someone who will fight for her. Not someone who spends his life running back to his dead fiancée."
Prisha, who had been standing in the corner with a smile playing on her lips, stepped forward. Her face was the picture of triumph. "It was all part of the plan, Samyak. You see, I never intended to lose him—not really. This marriage, Samir’s work—" She gestured towards the papers, "—was all to ensure that Nitya would never have you. Not now, not ever."
Samyak stood frozen, his face pale, his mind racing. The words hit him like a ton of bricks. His heart pounded in his chest as a wave of anger and disbelief overwhelmed him. "You... you changed the documents? You made this real? Samir, why? I thought—"
"I was tired of watching Nitya suffer," Samir interrupted, his voice sharp now. "You think you could just carry on your life, half in love with a ghost, and half a man in a marriage with someone who would always put herself second? No. Nitya deserves more than that. I won’t let you use her as your emotional crutch any longer."
Samyak’s fists clenched as he turned toward Prisha, fury bubbling inside him. "And you," he spat. "You—this is what you’ve been plotting, isn’t it? I thought you wanted me to be happy, that you cared about me. But this—this is betrayal, Prisha. You manipulated me into this. You lied to me about everything. You lied to me."
Prisha, her eyes gleaming with a cold satisfaction, took a step closer to Samyak. "I did what was necessary to get back what was mine. And now, Nitya is gone from your life, and you have no one to blame but yourself."
Nitya, who had been quietly listening from the door, finally spoke, her voice calm but trembling with quiet rage. "I was never a second choice, Samyak. I never wanted to be a substitute for someone else’s love. I gave everything to this marriage, believing that somehow, your heart might open to me. But now, I see that I was just a placeholder. This is your mess, Samyak. And I won’t be a part of it anymore."
Samyak’s heart dropped as Nitya’s words sank in. She was right—he had kept her in the shadows for far too long, never fully seeing her or appreciating her love. He had been too busy mourning the past to notice the woman who had been right in front of him.
"Samyak," Nitya continued, her voice now firm, "I’m done with this charade. I don’t need your guilt. I don’t need your broken promises. I’m with Samir now, and I’m moving on. It’s time you did the same."
Tears welled up in Samyak’s eyes as he looked at Nitya, but the anger inside him refused to subside. He had been outmaneuvered at every turn, and the reality of his situation was becoming all too clear.
"You... you did this for her, Samir?" Samyak growled, his voice raw with frustration. "You took away my choice, my marriage, and you did it to make me feel guilty? You had no right to do this. None of you did!"
Samir, standing tall and unmoving, met Samyak’s glare with an unwavering gaze. "I did it because you wouldn’t. I did it because you couldn’t give her the life she deserves."
Nitya stepped forward, her voice quiet but resolute. "It’s done, Samyak. It’s over."
As she walked out of the room, Samyak’s world crumbled around him. Prisha, watching Nitya leave, felt a sense of satisfaction she hadn’t known in years. Finally, the woman who had stood in her way was out of the picture. Samyak was hers again—or so she thought.
But as Samyak stood in the aftermath of the betrayal, the confusion, and the overwhelming emotions, he realized that the real consequences of the lies, the manipulation, and the tangled web he had been caught in were only just beginning.
