"I hope you like the sea."
"I do. But isn't it a bit late for the sea?" Suddenly, first dates reminded me of the Korean Series my sister and I usually watch. "I feel like I'm in 'We Got Married'... With the first date and all. Do you know that? Sometimes I watch it when my sister's watching. I kind of even want to try to be in those kinds of reality shows."
He chuckles. "Yeah. I know that. My friend was a part of it once."
"Really? Who?"
"Taemin-hyung. He's a Korean Idol. Do you know him?"
Taemin? I think it rings a bell. "Isn't he part of a Kpop group?"
He nods, "Yeah, Shinee."
"Right! Nice... So you know people like him, huh? How?" I ask, looking at him. His eyes were fixed on the road.
"Because of work. So how did it go with your event yesterday?" He asked back.
I start to tell him about how I met the president of Korea and that I was personally invited on an event for young people. I told him about the food and everything I saw on the blue house.
"Sorry, feel free to stop me when I'm being so talkative." I tell him.
He laughs, "No, I like it." He says as the car has come to a full stop. "We're here." He opens his door and I could instantly smell the salty smell of the sea.
"Wow." I said, stepping out of the car. I close my eyes and inhaled deeply. "It's so refreshing."
"I know. I've been wanting to go for weeks." He places his hands on my back to lead the way.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"We're going to eat."
"Are we having shrimp? I love shrimp!" I declared.
"We can have any seafood you like. I know a place." He replies.
We walk to the restaurant. It was small and no one was there.
"Did you rent the place or something?" I asked, feeling a little bit touched already.
"Uhm... You could say that. They close early and I asked the owner if they could open for us." I guess that's pretty much the same. We sit beside the windows where we could see the sea.
"I saw a restaurant in TV and it was located on a peak of a mountain. I forgot which one but I know that it's here in Korea. You have to go trekking to reach the place but the view looked beautiful. I want to go there as soon as I have the time." I share.
"Maybe we could go together. The place sounds nice." Jongin says. The owner walks up to us and takes our order.
"So... What are your hobbies? Likes?" I ask curiously.
He looks up, thinking. He bites a nail as he thinks. "I love to dance. I'm also practicing singing these days." He shares.
"Oh... So you want to be like an idol or something? Like your friends?" He didn't respond but he just smiled brightly. His smile could make you smile too. It's just too adorable. "Well... I'd like a job that I can travel. I love learning other cultures and interacting with people from other countries."
"I can see that." He teases. "So how did you end up in this country?"
"Haven't I told you?" I ask but continued shortly. "My dad's the Philippines Ambassador to Republic of Korea and he takes us with him."
"What places have you been to?" He asks.
"In terms of his assignment, we've lived in Italy, United Kingdom, and Spain. But... we've travelled a lot especially in Asia. How about you? Do you like traveling?" I ask.
"Yeah. I love London. I'd like to go back there again." Jongin shares.
"Me too. Maybe we'll even see each other there. I'm planning on staying there for a period of my life." I accidentally share. I don't plan on sharing my future plans with just anyone. "I'm sorry. Feel free to shut me up when I'm oversharing... seriously." I tell him.
"No... I told you, it's fine." He responds. I blush at his statement. "People like you make it less awkward in situations and it lifts some weights. If you know what I mean." I do. Sometimes, when people are talkative, people won't feel to burden to engage in awkward talks.
"Thank you. But I'll still be careful next time." I say.
He smiles, "So do you still have anything you'll do as the ambassador's daughter?"
"Well... Aside from trying to be perfect for them all the time, there's just that young peoples' event in a few days. I'm so excited but I'm also nervous. I won't know anyone and half of the people there will be Korean and I'm just in the intermediate level of my learning of your language..." My pouring my problem out got interrupted by his giggle. What? Did I say something funny? This guy just annoys me as hell. I'm trying to open up and he thinks it's funny.
"What?" I said, annoyed. "Did I say something funny that made you giggle?" I roll my eyes.
His expression turned serious as he saw how annoyed I was. "I'm sorry." He says. "I didn't mean to be rude or anything. It's just that I couldn't imagine you being nervous around other people. I mean you were so forward when we met and I find that a good thing."
I smile. "I'm taking that as a compliment, I guess."
"It is. Don't let your heart worry. In the few times we've met, though I couldn't predict or know everything about you but I know I'm sure of one thing. I know you don't want to disappoint your father and that's the reason why you're going to be fine on the next event." His eyes looked so sincere but I snapped back to reality. I've only met this guy for a few times and he could already see inside me.
"Woah there. You're just scary. How could you even possibly know something that deep about me? I'm afraid another date with you and I'll tell you all my secrets." I teased.
"It's not that you've been telling everything about yourself. It's just that you've mentioned him a few times and also the reason why you moved here in Korea in the first place. As for your secrets, it would be an honor to be your personal living diary." His words are making me blush. The breeze of the sea is cool but the inside of my body gets hot every time he says things like those.
"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind." I smile and he smiles back.
I'm glad nothing was really that awkward. We ate loads of food and it was really satisfying. I'll make sure I take my family here since the owner knows me now too. After we ate, we walked on the seashore for a while. There was no one around, maybe because it was really late already. I didn't mind it though. In fact, I liked it very much. When we decided to call it a night, he drops me off my house.
He walks me in front of my house. "You'll do great in the next event you'll go to. I assure you." He comforts me.
"Thank you for that and for tonight. I enjoyed it very much." I tell him honestly.
"I had fun too. If you're scared or nervous on the event, don't hesitate on calling or texting me."
"Thanks again." I smile.
"Alright, I'll be going now." He says.
I nod, "Good night."
He smiles, "Good night, Eilee."
