Daniel felt so embarrassed when he left the café. “After all, I’m blind,” the girl had said. Those very words had been echoing in his mind, even when his father asked him if he wanted something to eat. Rose had to order for him although she was giggling like a madwoman.

Blind? Daniel repeated in his head. How could she possibly be blind? He had seen her walk around the counter like it was nothing. She didn’t act blind, not at all. She had known when he was standing in front of her and was careful not to bump her head on the counter when she almost died of laughter.

Huffing he tried to shrug it off but he simply couldn’t. She was so gorgeous! Her hair was the softest chestnut colour, her skin was so smooth and flawless. Her body was perfectly fine; curves in all the right places, just enough skin revealed but not too much like the girls back home.

The one thing that had Daniel confused, though, was how she could accept the fact that she wouldn’t be able to see what anyone around her looked like, or what her own self looked like. She was quite beautiful though. He wondered if she knew that already. She didn’t seem like the stuck u type though…

“Danny’s got a girl-friend!” Rose’s immature little voice squeaked as he climbed into the car.

Shooting his little sister a death glare, he said, “She’s not my girl-friend,” and buckled himself into his seat.

He wriggled around and slumped into the seat rest, lolling his head to head to the side, releasing a sigh of anguish. His pride had been hurt, and his ego had deflated. No girl had ever laughed at him or called him out, so made her any different?

Ah, wait. She was blind, that’s right. If only she could see what he looked like and he worked his charm a little more, then she would definitely fall head over heels for him like every other female in a 10k radius.

Daniel cracked a grin when he realised this. Of course, how could he have been so stupid?

“What are you all happy about, son?” his father asked, glancing at him through the rearview mirror.

“Nothing,” Daniel replied smugly. “Dad, did you know that the girl behind the counter was blind?”

His father pursed his lips in thought and then nodded sincerely. “Hmph. I never would’ve guessed,” he shrugged.

Cindy watched as Nora clambered out of her small car, quickly and with ease. She tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear and shot her best-friend a smile; a facial expression Nora would never see.

“Do you need me to pick you up tomorrow?” Cindy asked, “I’ll be getting up extra early, so I won’t mind.”

Tomorrow, Cindy, Nora and the rest of the gang needed to be at the café before everyone who was arriving from all over the country arrived for the upcoming festival and fishing competition. Georgie, the manager of the caf, wanted them to be ready for a busy day.

“No it’s okay,” Nora said, “I’ll be fine to walk. Do you think Georgie will mind if I bring Ellie along?”

Cindy shook her head, knowing that the blind girl would hear the movements. Nora grinned widely and then started to proceed towards the small, beige cottage she called home.

“Thanks for dropping me off, Cindy,” she called, opening the white picket gate. “See you tomorrow.” She carried her weight along the stone footpath that she learned to memorise over the years and jumped up the three wooden steps that took her to the front door.
