"You're letting him dictate the fight to his advantage.

The next morning, Shadow, Jade, Alice, and Rosalie walked into the throne room. Nothing out of the usual.

Yet.

"Hey everyone!" Shadow greeted them enthusiastically, and Alice, Jade and Rosalie echoed softly. All of them nodded back with a Hi, except Alec.

Jane nudged Alec.

"Say hi, brother," She said.

Alec glared at Jade. "No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"Jane, I'm seriou-"

"Yes!"

Alec growled. "NO."

Jane slapped him.

"Fine. Hi." He left without another word.

Aro watched the exchange with wide eyes, and let out a small laugh.

"Well, looks like Alec is a bit grumpy today!"

Shadow chuckled nervously, exchanging a glance with Rosalie. Jade shifted uncomfortably, her arms crossed as her eyes followed Alec's retreating figure. She couldn't shake the sharp pang of anger that bubbled in her chest every time he looked at her.

"Well, I suppose it's not every day someone finds out they're destined for a soulmate who despises them," Alice whispered, smirking slightly.

"Destined or not, it doesn't matter," Jade snapped. "He's insufferable."

"And you're a burst sunshine, Jade," Rosalie muttered under her breath.

Before Jade could retort, Aro clapped his hands, drawing their attention. "Enough, enough, my dear ones. We have training to prepare for! Felix and Demetri are waiting in the arena."

Shadow perked up, eager to get moving. She needed the distraction. Jade, however, narrowed her eyes, clearly less enthused.

"Training?" Jade muttered. "Just what I need."

Meanwhile, Alec stalked down the castle's winding corridors, his fists clenched at his sides. He hated this. Hated the bond. Hated how it tethered him to the impersonated Jade, someone who didn't belong in his carefully controlled life. Or at least, the imposter, Raven, didn't

But what Alec hated most of all was the gnawing sense of wrongness he'd felt last night when he encountered Raven. The sharpness of her features, the subtle differences in her expression—small but unmistakable. Jade Volturi had a presence, a way of holding herself. Raven, in that fleeting moment, had lacked it.

"I'll wait," Alec murmured to himself. Exposing her now would be premature. He needed proof, a way to corner her that left no room for denial.

And maybe, just maybe, Jade was alive. Hopefully if she is, she's not so horrible like Raven is.

But as he turned a corner, his resolve faltered for a moment. A vision of Jade—not the manipulative vampire he suspected, but the fierce, stubborn girl she pretended to be—flashed in his mind.

His jaw tightened. Whatever her game was, he'd figure it out. But first, he had to survive training without tearing her—or himself—apart.

In the arena, Felix and Demetri stood waiting, their arms crossed and their expressions severe.
