Chapter Two: The Escape

Singapore

Orchard Road

07.00 A.M.

5th September, 2030

"Well, I bought everything for me tonight, but what should I cook?"

A single lady (but no ring on her) said to herself, she's just closed her car baggage.

"Sorry miss, you dropped your purse at the office." A voice said behind her back.

"What? Oh it's you, Chloe. I didn't drop it, but for one second I thought my purse really gone and you were someone else. What are you doing here?"

"Duh, shopping of course. Orchard's the best shopping road to me. What about you, Yuko?"

"Shopping for tonight, this single lady has some date to go, hahaha!"

"I can't believe it! You actually have a date? With who? I had transience that you may finally get a date when you said you were single, but I have no idea it would happen now."

"With myself, hahaha... I'm done."

"Yeah you're done, I almost bought it."

"So, wanna go out tonight? Our 'friend' would like to party, if you know what I'm talking about."

"Yeah let's- wait, what the hell?! Hell no! I'm not that kind of girl!"

"You must be fun at the parties, well see ya later."

"No, I'm not- oh, I get it..."

As Chloe walk away, Yuko drove away.

Singapore

08.37 A.M.

The Earth trembled, an earthquake stroked but for only a few second. Yuko felt the quake as she tried to keep control of her car. Before she knew it, there's already a Titan behind her.

At the radio, "Singapore is being attacked by another Titan, Titan codenamed Elephant has landed just outside Sentosa Island and wreaking havoc in downtown, all people need to go to the nearest secluded place or evacuation bunker, this message will be repeated every minute."

"Really? Damn, my house still fara-"

Before she could finish her sentence, the Titan already behind her car, seemingly chased her with a shrieking voice. The ground trembled as it ran, its big foot thumping the road like it was a child stepping on toy cities.

The thumping sound got louder and louder as Yuko drove her car.

"What the hell?! AAAAAHHHHH!!!" Yuko screamed as she pressed hard on the pedal.

"Why can't I finish my sentences?"

"And why it's chasing me?!! Save me! Please!" as Yuko drove, she screamed into the streets, just to find out she's the only human left on the street.

Yuko drove fast and furiously as she passed the cars that have been left by their owner, another car got in her way and she slam the wheel right, and then left. A car carrier stuck in traffic and got in her way, she jumped the back of the carrier and landed, not safely, as she crashed into a pole. The Titan that chased her already made a turn on the previous block right before she jumped.

She was seriously injured and went into comatose state.

Someone found her body in her car and called for help, he dragged her body out and she was taken to the nearest hospital.

The doctor asked that man was he her relative, he said no.

The man left the hospital.

After further search, he found Yuko's identity. Her name is Yuko Rie, born in 2009, she has no family, her parents killed when a Titan attack in 2027, Osaka. She moved to Singapore at age 18, shortly after her parents death. She lived in a small apartment and knows nothing when she arrived. She worked at office near her apartment as Marketing Manager.

He went back the next day.

"I'm sorry doctor, but she has no relative here, I will be the one to take care of her financial need."

"Okay, she went into comatose state because of her crash and it could cause memory loss in her brain."

"When she will wake up?"

"It's not certain."

"Why?"

"Because in comatose state, only God knows when she will wake up."

"Okay... that's logical."

"Of course it is Mr. Ryse."

The man left, as he was thinking how to finance a stranger. He regretted that he found her but now he has more pressing matter.

If I found someone like her, well, maybe I'm just going to call other people.

What would you do?

Indonesia

Somewhere on the outskirt of Jakarta

01.00 P.M.

"Thanks to you guys, the plan for the project already finished, the work will start next week." The project manager said to his workers.

"Okay boss!"

Ryse went to his boss and talked to him.

"Hey boss, can we talk for a second?"

"What is it Ryse?"

"Uh, I want my salary to be paid in advance, because for some reason I really need the money."

"Sorry, we can't do that."

"But why?"

"Because economic inflation and money doesn't grow on tree. You need to work hard so you get your money by the end of the month."

"I'm really sorry boss, but I needed that money now, there's someone in hospital that I need to... take care of."

"There's someone in hospital that I need to take care of, so what? Life isn't fair? If you want to take your gear and give it to someone else, you'll be my guest!"

"Really?! I hate this place!" Ryse said furiously as he blaze through the crowd.

6 months later, he couldn't afford the fee, so he said to the doctor that he will wake care of her by himself. After showing his Doctor Degree, the hospital transferred Yuko into his house.

The reason why Ryse was in Singapore is because he was a worker for government project. The project to shield humanity from the Titan. He travels the world on the last 5 years to build the project.

Years fly by, and government finished up the plan for humanity, all country built underground city, like some vault, 'to protect humanity from the Titans'. The plan was called Project Nova October.

Everyone was evacuated, it took 3 years to evacuate the whole humanity.

Ryse evacuated Yuko that's still in comatose state.
