It was today, June 24th 2006, that the dynasty would unofficially begin. The dynasty would start years later, but it is slowly beginning to form.  It all started with a draft steal in the 2006 NHL Draft.
Jonathan Toews is patiently sitting in his seat waiting to be picked just like all the other great prospects. Finally, the commissioner takes to the stage.
"Good evening everyone and welcome to the 2006 NHL Draft here in Vancover. Here in this stadium, we have wonderful prospects that are hoping to be picked tonight. I would now like to welcome the representative from the St Louis Blues with the first overall pick" The commissioner says, slowly walking of the stage.
"With the First pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, the St Louis Blues select..."
Toews' heart was pumping, harder than the the other prospects.
"The Defenseman from the university of Minnesota Golden Gophers, Erik Johnson!"
Johnson was one of Toews' buds, in fact they were sitting by each other.
Johnson accepts his jersey and goes and celebrates. The draft continues.
Toews was so nervous he stayed in the bathroom for a while, untill he heard that the next pick was going to be announced. He sat down, just in time as the second pick was being announced.
"With the second pick in the 2006 NHL Draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins select,
The Centre from Peterborough Petes..."
Toews was disappointed. He went from Top Pick to 5th pick. But what he didn't know is that the other teams made a mistake. The player that he would become is unbelievable.
"Jordan Staal!!"
It was only a couple minutes later until the Chicago Blackhawks had their 3rd pick being announced.
