Anaida tried opening her eyes but her headache got even worse from trying as the sunlight seemed too harsh on her eyes. She groaned loudly and held her head in her hands trying to calm the banging in her head.
Wait, where am I? Home? My home? Oh God no!! Scared, she suddenly opened her eyes, sat upright in bed and looked around. It wasn't her room, it wasn't her home. It wasn't Deb's either. She looked around closely, to find hints.
There was a watch at the side table. Men's watch. Clothes thrown over everywhere. Men clothing. There was a small wooden rack near the window filled with movie DVDs and games. Men sport. Everything men! Am I in a boy's..... Her hands suddenly flew to her mouth in shock.
She immediately removed the blanket over her and hurried out of bed. And then she saw herself. A huge full size mirror stood in front of her, showing her own self but as if in someone else's body.
Her eyes were swollen and she had smudged coal around them, her face was pale, her hair was disheveled and scattered all around her face and shoulders. Most shocking was her dressing. Her dress was torn. She couldn't stop herself from imagining all her worst case scenarios. Her hands flew to her face and a broken gasp left her lips. Silently and unknowingly, tears started to roll down her cheeks.
"No. No. No. This can't be true." She tried convincing herself in a teary and broken voice. Her body gave in to her wobbly knees and she fell on the floor with a little thud. She tried forcing her mind to recollect and connect the broken memories she had, from the earlier night, but all her efforts were going in vain. All she could remember was the party, Ankush, his room and..... Her eyes widened in shock. Ankush did this to me. He. HE. But why, why will he do so?.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the opening of a door. She wanted to turn and see who it was but she was too afraid to find out. She heard a coughing noise, male voice, as if demanding her attention. She still didn't move. Suddenly a bed cover was thrown at her and the voice that came along it, completely shocked her senses.
"Cover yourself with it or else you'll catch cold." Aarav told her in an indifferent voice, not even looking in her direction. He didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.
She didn't have to turn in his direction to look who it was as she was very well aware of that voice. Her tears gushed out with a new flow as her mind completely shut down after failing to contemplate why would this guy hurt her, that too in this way.
She took the bed cover, folded it around her and started to stand up on her shaky legs. She lost her balance a bit and Aarav instantly moved to her support.
"Don't touch me." She said in a low chilling voice, as soon as she felt his touch.
"Anaida, don't be a kid, let me help you." He answered in a straight voice and again moved towards her to help her balance. What happened next, shocked the soul out of him. She slapped him, hard-slicing slap it was. It carried all her anger and the force basically pushed him away.
"I said, DON'T TOUCH ME!" Anaida replied, grinding her teeth, her body badly shivering from the anger she was feeling.
"Wha..." Aarav started, still too stunned to react.
"Shut up. Just shut up." She held her head with one of her hands, as if trying to calm down her mind and focus on the situation at hand. She started prancing around the room. Suddenly she stopped, looked over at Aarav and her expression changed to that of a little scared child.
"Why, why did you do this to me? I know you hate me, but this." She opened her arms, and the bed cover protecting her dignity till now, fell onto the floor and pooled around her feet.
For that one moment, when she looked so broken and lost, he forgot all his shock and anger and all that he wanted was to run to her, take her in his arms and protect her. But just in another instant he was brought back to reality, and even his anger was back in place. How could she think I'll do something like that? How could she think I'll go that low?
"I don't know why you hate me so much. But tell me, please, what did I do that I got this? Do I deserve this? Then why Aarav, why god damn it?" She kept throwing questions at his blank face, for he didn't knew how to react to all this.
Every time his anger grew, her tears melted him, every time he wanted to scream and tell her the truth, her bruises silenced him. She stood there, powerless, defeated, but he could do nothing to console her, instead he just stood there and took all the blame.
"You're so shameless. You are not even defending your deeds. Oh right, you must be very proud of yourself, you are the cool dude right now, you slept with a girl and scored. You are a bloody RAPIST.!"
"Shut up. Shut up Anaida! Have you lost your mind. Are you even thinking before saying these stuff?"
"I am mad? I must do all the thinking? Wow man! Some hard balls you have..."
"Anaida!" Deb exclaimed. She had heard the last bits of their conversation before entering Aarav's room and knew exactly what was happening in there.
"Finally!" Aarav let out a breath of relief and closed his eyes to ease out the tension and calm himself down. When he opened his eyes again, he looked directly at Deb and said in a business-like voice, " I want you to finish this nonsense drama as soon as possible and leave my room. I'm leaving you with the responsibility to handle this situation, coz it's pretty sure we can't." And with that, he collected his bike keys from the coffee table and left the room.
"Look at this man's attitude, I mean..." Anaida started.
"Ana stop. He didn't do anything. You need to sit down and listen." She held Anaida by her shoulders and made her sit down on the bed. Anaida was too confused to react against it.
"Let me start from the beginning....."
