Anaida and Ankush walked towards the parking lot. Anaida felt nervous about the oddness of everything that was happening around her. Why was this handsome guy showing so much interest in her? He was waiting for her? For Her? A shy smile suddenly covered her face. She was so deeply involved in her thoughts that she didn’t realize the awkward silence between the two of them.
“A penny for that thought.” Ankush smilingly said whren they finally reached the parking lot.
“Hmm.. What?” Anaida suddenly came out of her thoughts and looked over Ankush. “Oh I am so sorry. You were saying?” They have reached her car. She looked around and saw that the parking area was completely empty and they were the only beings over there.
“Nothing much. But what were you thinking by the way? You were so deep in your thoughts. You know you are the only who has ever ignored me like that. Am I seriously that boring?” He said making a sad pout and throwing his hand to his heart, acting like he was hurt. Anaida couldn’t stop herself from laughing at his expression. “You know what, you have a really beautiful smile and your eyes sparkle when you laugh.” He said, intently eyeing her.
Anaida’s laughter instantly came to a halt and she became conscious. If somebody else would have said such a thing, she probably would have laughed and called it such a cheesy line. But such a line coming from Ankush made her feel nervous. She became embarrassed and started looking down at her feet. She felt a touch on her arm.
Ankush touched her shoulder and ran his fingers down her arms softly, as she closed her eyes. She should have felt nice, romantic maybe, but right there she felt odd about the way he was touching her. She felt even more awkward when he held her hands. Her eyes snapped open and taking her hands back from his, she took a step back. She looked at Ankush’s face, who held a shocked expression now and his hands still hanging in the air.
“Umm… I am sorry. I just got caught up in the moment. I am so sorry. I should not have done that.” He nervously started explaining.
“Hey, relax! I am sorry too, I think I was shocked by the touch and so I stepped back.” She saw Ankush take a step toward her. “I think it’s quite late now and I should be going now.” She went to her car’s door, opened it and before sitting in, turned to look at him. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
Ankush didn’t say anything but just nodded. His face was blank and held no emotions. Anaida didn’t dare say another word. She got into her car and with a last ‘bye’, she drove away. She was confused about how she was feeling right then. She felt good about the fact that Ankush showed an interest in her. But at the same time, she felt an uncomfortable vibe between them.
Ankush stood there and watched Anaida driving away. He turned, went to the nearest wall and punched his right fist at it. With a final groan, he turned and walked away.

“HEY…!!!!! ANAAAAA….. WAIT UP!” As Anaida turned, she saw an over-exited Deb running towards her. Anaida had just entered the college building and like every day, she felt nervous that she might have to face Ankush. It had been three days since that parking lot incident and that was also the last time that she had seen him. Though nervous but she still wanted to meet him, apologize again and tell him that she was nervous and too stunned by his act and so she had acted the way she had. But she wasn’t getting the chance and she was too shy to ask around about his whereabouts.
“You….know…..what……” Deb asked jumping like a crazy kid. She hadn’t recovered her normal breath but she was too excited to care.
“Relax Deb. Oh god, you are in your crazy mode again. What now?”
“You won’t believe what just happened.” Deb said with her eyes so wide that Anaida feared that they might pop out.
“You discovered a treasure?” Anaida asked, almost bored.
“Better than that.” Deb said, her face beaming.
“Ian Somerhalder proposed u.”
“Not yet! But a certain Indian macho boy is connected to the good news.”
“Ranbeer Kapoor is..”
“NO!! Aahhh.. Fine, I’ll tell you, but for the record, you suck in the guessing game.” Deb was now very irritated.
“Thanks for the compliment, Debby baby!” Anaida said, pinching Deb’s chubby cheeks.
“Yeah whatever!” She said flinching away.
“So getting back to the point,” and with that her excitement was instantly back, “are you ready for partying out this Saturday?”
“Party? What? Why? Is it your birthday?” Anaida asked, as she felt nervous about the whole ‘party’ thing. It had been years since she had went out to a party with her friends, not at least since her father’s death. It wasn’t that that she didn’t like enjoying or hanging around with her friends, but she always had an uneasy feeling in her that it might be too much for her, too uncomfortable perhaps.
“It’s not a party, it’s a bloody PARTY!!! And not everyone gets invited to this one, ‘coz this is an all-awesome-people-only party, and so we both are invited for it.” Deb finished off proudly.
“Ohkay, but who’s party is it?”
“Now you’re asking the right questions.” Deb had a huge grin on her face and this time Anaida didn’t take much time to make the right guess.
“Is it….Ankush’s?” She asked, still not sure about her guess and more importantly not sure about her reaction that whether she should be happy or nervous or both.
“Finally! Yup, you’re right.” Her oh-so-proud attitude still evident.
“But how do you know, about the party, that we are invited?”
“Ankush told me, a few minutes ago. He met me outside the building. He even offered to pick us up for the party, can you imagine that?”
“No, I can’t.” Anaida answered indifferently.
“Hey, what has happened to you, I thought you had a crush on that handsome devil, and for god’s sake you guys even went out on a date. So why are you having this dead face expression?”
“Umm, no, it’s nothing like that. It’s just that I’m not much confident about this party-going stuff.”
“Oh come on you can’t say no to this. And what are you worried about, I’ll be there with you. You know what, I’ve never been to a party ‘coz my parents never allowed me to go but now when they are not in the same city as me, I want to go out and experience this. Even I’m nervous, but I thought you’ll be there for me. So please.” Deb asked sadly.
“Oh god Debby, you are emotionally blackmailing me. Okay, I’ll think about it.” To which Deb made a cry like expression and a sad pout. “Ahhh.. Fine. Now stop making those expressions.” Anaida said smilingly.
“YEEEAAHHHH!!!! I knew you love me.” Deb said cheerily, hugging Anaida tightly. “So who’s up for some shopping?”
