I couldn't get out of bed for the next two days and go to school. I'd get up to take Jack and Mia to school, but then I crawled back into bed, staring at the ceiling until dismissal time rolled around.
When the second day of skipping school became evident to my mom, she walked into my room, glanced at my weakened state, scowled something like "pathetic" and left for work. That proved enough to me that she didn't care if I was drowning in a deep depression. As long as I was helping raise her children and doing all the household duties, she didn't care if I was near killing myself.
I felt every single emotion known to humans but still felt numb. Being surrounded by people didn't heal the loneliness embedded in my soul. Self-harming didn't fix anything. It was useless trying to find a way to numb the numbness.
Instead, the absence of my willingness to live grew comfortable. It was all I knew, everything I had.
Later in the day while I'm making dinner, my phone buzzes in my jean pocket. I tap the spatula free of the grease and set it on the counter, pulling my phone out. Faith's contact flashed with a message notification.
Faith
F-Hey, where have you been?
R- I think I caught a stomach bug from one of my siblings :(
R- I'm sorry for abandoning you with the boys :p
F- It was torture!
F- Without you here the boys resorted to food fights with their lunch. I swear, I have no clue how I've kept up them all these years!!!
R-Sorry! Next time I'll send you a shield and some pepper spray.
