"Oh, very nice of you to bring us food," Oliver says as he sits beside me at lunch the following day. I slap his hand away when he tries reaching for the strawberries I'd brought from home. He scowls playfully, retreating his hand with a frown.
Faith had been caught up with their shenanigans from yesterday by Liam. This was the new normal from what we had discussed before school started. Oliver and Liam would sit with us just like they'd sat together in previous years.
I was doomed.
It wasn't all bad when Faith and I were talking though. Her company was far easier to enjoy compared to the two boys who were now arm wrestling beside us. It was like watching kids play, which wasn't necessarily a good thing when you were in your senior year.
"You guys, we should go to the movies soon. There's this action movie coming out that I've been dying to see." Faith exclaims, stealing the attention from the arm wrestling the boys had been engaged in. Oliver faces faith, saying, "Depends when it is. I've got some studying to do for a test in business."
I ignored the topic that had been on my mind all night; Oliver and I had walked around the park in comfort, sharing each other's bad days, but the other two people at the table had no idea about it.
I trusted Faith, but if I told her what had happened, I'd have to relive Oliver's hand on my face, and I didn't trust myself not to get flustered at the thought. Oliver, on the other hand, was unbothered beside me. His jokes continued, and whatever mask he'd let down last night to show he was struggling as well was back up today.
He didn't seem to pay much mind to it, so I'd just have to forget about it as well.
"Well, I was going to say tonight but we could do Saturday if that works better." Oliver nods at Faith's suggestion meanwhile Liam and I eat in silence, bystadning the conversation amongst our group.
During the discussion, everyone stops, eyes falling on Allie who'd invited herself to the empty chair beside Oliver. Faith's face is bitter, annoyed, and displeased when I glance her way.
She really did hate her.
Liam was just sharing a secret glance toward Oliver who'd at this point shuffled his chair closer to mine and further away from Allie. "What are you doing?" Oliver snarls, his hands braced in fists on the table. "You blocked my number after sending me a text to fuck off." She replies with an offended tone.
"Take the hint, Allie. Close your legs and walk away." Liam mutters, shaking his head. Allie's eyes snap toward him and the flinch that passes through Faith doesn't go unnoticed. "No one was talking to you asshole. And last time I checked your friend over here was perfectly fine with my legs open the other night."
Faith clenches her jaw and I see the words bubbling in her throat before she spits, "Being a whore isn't a flex, piranha. Pack your shit in and walk away before I rip those unblended extensions out of your head."
