Thirty-Two Months after the Attack
After that night, Mitsu began to show an interest in piloting a Guardian. I didn't want him to, but I knew that it would be fine if he started training at least. Qhuten had already changed out the Central Pod on the Proto Guardian so that Mitsu was the pilot. There was plenty that could go wrong but I knew that Mitsu would be great at it. We had already been exercising together and now he was going to be putting that to good use.
We had still not heard from Qhil. Qhuten had held me back from going out there with the Voidstorm Guardian until we had some sort of news about Qhil or the Regored ship. I had begun to assume the worst. William Faucher had been the one to set up the meeting and we had attempted several times to contact him. If we managed to make contact and set up a second meeting, I would be the one waiting for them. Me and the Voidstorm Guardian.
Qhuten had been running through numerous tests in an attempt to figure out how the AV Generator worked. He wasn't any closer to figuring it out than we were to stopping the war. There was only so much of the technology that he could take apart without risking a possible failsafe that Qhil would definitely have in place. Otath had come and gone from Sedronia several times over the course of the last month.
I had come up with a plan, but I wasn't sure how it was going to go. I went to Qhuten to discuss my plan with him. "What do you think would move this war along?" I asked simply.
"What do you mean?" He asked back, obviously confused.
"With the stalemate where it is, and very little import and export to or from Sedronia, what do you think we could do to either come to a peace accord or actually start to strike against humanity?" I said, trying to lead him into my idea.
Qhuten was quiet for moment. "The Council of Sedronia has been drafting several peace accords since the war was declared. They've also been trying to get humans involved with it as well but that's gone as well as our attempts to reach Faucheur."
Now was the time to pitch my idea. "What if there was a neutral party with a ship and a secret weapon on board that was to go straight into the soldiers patrols."
There was another moment of silence. "I can't stop you from doing a plan like that. Qhil entrusted the Voidstorm Guardian to you, if you wish to take it into battle I will provide you with a ship and a crew."
I could feel his reluctance. "I want you to keep Mitsu here in Qronia. He can continue his training for the Proto Guardian. He will probably want to come with me, but I would rather he stay on Sedronia."
"I will do what I can for him, but I think taking him with you would be the better option."
"I don't know if I could handle him and the crew of Regored though. He wants to become a Guardian Pilot and this would be his chance to practice safely." There were plenty more reasons I could give, but I hoped that would be reason enough.
Qhuten sighed and shrugged. "Well, I'll put in a request for a ship and crew for you. With the Council's approval, we can have you leaving next week."

Qhuten seemed to work nonstop to get a ship ready for me. I was impressed by how quickly the Taggons were able to get even a smaller ship like this ready. Qhuten seemed to be lost in thought most days. Anytime I asked him what was on his mind, he would simply say that he had a new project idea. Then came the moment that I told Mitsu that he wasn't coming with me. He had taken it hard at first, not even looking at me for the rest of the day. He went and sat in the lab with Qhuten instead.
