Third POV
April 2008, Washington D.C. SHIELD Headquarters
Fury stood by the window of his office, staring at the peaceful Washington day and reflecting on the past few days' events. A moment later, Maria Hill walked into his office. The woman cleared her throat, attracting his attention, he turned to her.
"We have information on the location of the Black Widow," she informed him.
Fury nodded and walked over to his desk, staring at the papers momentarily. One of them was a picture of a man in red and yellow metal armor. Finally, he looked up at the black haired women. "Where?" he asked briefly.
Hill walked over to the desk and put down the map of Central Europe she was holding on. "Here," she said, pointing to the largest city in southern Germany.
"Munich?" Fury asked, intrigued.
The woman nodded. "She was seen yesterday in Nuremberg," she said, pointing to the city in northern Bavaria. "She took the freeway south," she said, running her finger over the bold yellow line on the map that marked the freeways. "The camera picked her up entering the city two hours ago."
Fury carefully considered the information the woman had given him, running his hand over the map himself. Finally, he raised his head and looked at Maria. "Exact location?"
"We don't know," Hill shook her head. "But most likely one of these districts," she added, pointing out 3 districts in the northern part of the city.
Fury looked at the map again, examining the location Hill had indicated. "Send Barton. He needs to be there tomorrow morning."
She nodded, turned, and headed for the exit. She stood in the doorway, looking over her shoulder at Fury, thinking of one more thing. The man was still staring at the map. "There's a problem, sir."
Fury raised his head and looked at her. "I don't care if Barton spends the day with his family; he has to be there tomorrow morning," Fury replied coldly, thinking the problem was his top agent's indisposition.
Hill chuckled and shook her head. "Barton is available, it's something else."
"In one of these districts where we think the target is, there's a stadium where there's a game tomorrow. It's like the German derby, there will be tens of thousands of people there. It'll be easy for her to blend in, and any action outside puts civilian lives at risk," Hill explained.
Fury sighed, then gritted his teeth. "I don't give a damn about this game. I want Black Widow dead tomorrow, no matter how many people get hurt," Fury said, the anger seeping into his voice. Black Widow had attacked several SHIELD bases in allied countries over the past five years, mostly in Europe, wiping out all the agents stationed there.
Hill nodded. "Yes, sir," she replied before walking away.
Fury looked back at the map, searching for the stadium the woman had spoken of. "I'm not going to let some game keep me from avenging my agents."
Fury walked away from the desk and returned to the window. "Once the pride of Russia, now an international criminal, your life will be over tomorrow. Agent Barton doesn't miss."
After leaving Nick's office, Maria Hill made her way to the training floor and to the room where Clint spent most of his time. She knocked on the door.
"Who's there?" came a voice from the other side.
"You're on a mission, Barton," Hill replied.
"Come in," Clint replied. She pushed the door handle and walked in to find Agent Barton sitting on the couch watching TV, the remote in one hand and a beer in the other.
