Aurora

A hand softly caressed my face, willing me to wake up. By the roughness and the warmth of the skin I immediately knew who it was. Although I felt too exhausted to wake up just yet my lips tilted upwards.

"Wake up, love" he softly whispered against my forehead.

So tiredly I pried my eyes open until I could see his stubbly and dirty face, right in front of mine.
"Hi" I mouthed because my voice was still gone.

The corners of his mouth tilted up as well but there was visible concern in his deep purple eyes.
"How are you feeling?" He asked and only then I realized that it was weird that I felt fine. I felt completely normal although I had been struck by lightning.

My brows furrowed.
"I'm fine but how?" I asked him, to which he sent me a look of relief before leaning back on his chair that stood in front of the hospital bed.
The hospital bed?

"I think the energy somehow healed you" he speculated, taking my hand in his.
His sight turned empty as if he relived the events.
"I couldn't even see what was happening with you on my back. I just knew that you were in pain" he whispered, pain flashing in his eyes.

"You saved me, Ronan. I would've fallen if you hadn't carried me down" I said reassuringly. As I remembered the pain I had been in until I had passed out on his back my expression turned into a grimace. I had practically been torn from the insides out.

"You saved everyone, Aurora" he spoke, shaking his head disbelievingly.
"You killed every single ghostly" he added.

But when I tried to remember I didn't even feel like it had been me. I had been on autopilot, a completely different version of me, driven by the sheer pain.

"I still can't believe it" I whispered.

"Just wait until you go outside."

With his help I left the hospital room and the resting witches behind.
It was bright outside because I had slept to the early afternoon.
Everything just looked so different during the light of the day. It looked more like what I had left but still different.

There were torn pieces of buildings, debris and ash that was still getting thrown through the air by the wind.
But the atmosphere was more depressed than ever. I still remembered where we buried our people, on the hill at the opposite side of the Sea. And I was glad for that now, at least they could say goodbye to their loved ones in peace.

I chose to lead Ronan towards the hill now, hoping for the same tranquility. And I also wanted to say goodbye. I hoped that this would be the last time I'd come back here. The next time we returned would be to scout the Green Sea but we'd have to prepare first. Obviously the plague was more out of hand than we'd expected.
