Rose 🌹:His deep blue eyes bore into mine as I quickly tried to explain myself.
The man's sudden appearance startled me, and I took a step back. "I-I'm Rose," I stammered, "I found Liam on the street. He was scared and hurt."
The man's anger seemed to subside slightly, but he still looked wary. "Liam? Oh, thank goodness," he said, relief washing over his face. "I've been so worried. I was out looking for him."
He turned to Liam, who was still sleeping peacefully on the couch. "Liam," he whispered, gently shaking his shoulder. "Liam, wake up."
Liam stirred, his eyes fluttering open. When he saw his brother, he let out a cry of relief and scrambled into his arms. "Brother!" he cried, burying his face in his father's chest.
The man held Liam close, stroking his hair gently. "It's okay, buddy," he murmured. "I'm here."
He looked at me again, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you," he said sincerely. "I don't know how to thank you enough for finding him."
"It was no problem," I said, waving him off. "I'm just glad he's safe."
The man smiled, his eyes twinkling. "You're a good person, Rose."
I blushed slightly. "Thank you."
The man turned to his son. "Why don't you go upstairs and get some sleep?" he suggested. "I'll talk to Rose for a bit."
Liam nodded and, with a sleepy wave goodbye, and went upstairs.
The man turned back to me, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I owe you a proper thank you," he said. "Would you like to come in for some coffee? Or maybe I could take you home?"
I hesitated. I didn't want to intrude, but I also didn't want to go home alone in the dark. "I don't want to trouble you," I said.
The man smiled. "It's no trouble at all. Please, come in."
I followed him into the kitchen, where he poured us each cup of coffee. We sat at the kitchen table, sipping our coffee in comfortable silence.
"So," the man began, "how did you find Liam?"
I told him the story of how I had found Liam, leaving out the part about the driver. I didn't want to scare him, although Liams brother seemed pretty scary already. The man listened intently, his eyes wide with concern. "That sounds terrifying," he said when I finished. "I can't believe you were so brave."
I shrugged. "I just wanted to help."
The man smiled. "You're a remarkable young woman, Rose."
I blushed again. "Thank you."
We talked for a while longer about Liam, about his family, about my life. I learned that the man's name was Grey and that he was a buisness man who owned many restaurants, companies, etc.As I was getting ready to leave, Grey insisted on giving me a ride home. I thanked him again and again, feeling a sense of warmth and gratitude that I hadn't expected.
As we drove down the street, I looked at the houses, now illuminated by the streetlights. They seemed so much smaller, so much less imposing than they had earlier in the night.
I looked at Grey, who was driving, and smiled. "Thank you for everything," I said. "I'll never forget tonight."
Grey smiled back. "You're welcome, Rose. I'm just glad you were there for Liam."
He pulled up to my house, and I got out of the car. "Good night, Grey," I said.
"Good night, Rose," he replied. "And thank you again."
I waved goodbye and walked up to my house, feeling a sense of peace and contentment that I hadn't felt in a long time. I had faced danger and emerged victorious, but more importantly, I had helped someone in need. And that, I realized, was a feeling worth more than any victory
As I unlocked the door to the house, I couldn't help but smile. Tonight had been a night of fear and danger, but it had also been a night of courage and kindness. And that, I knew, was something to be proud of.Lost in my daydream, I didn't realise that one of my brothers was standing in front of me with a gleam in his eye
"What are you smiling for, sister?" He spat out spitefully
