YOUR body lurches forward, lungs burning, gasping for air as if breaking through the ocean's surface. Everything feels wrong— your body feels sore, breath ragged, as the air is thick with a putrid, metallic scent. You shift, something wet and sticky clings to your skin. Your mind is a blur, fragmented memories slipping through your grasp like sand. The last thing you remember—no, you swear—you were winding up, ready to shatter the jewel.

In the corner of your eye, you saw a figure. You whipped your head at the person who was present, receiving a sharp pain in your neck from the speed it moved. Wincing, you slowly brought a hand up to the tender spot, hoping your touch would somehow heal the pain.

You saw the eyes of the culprit. Fear and distress were filled within the red eyes it rested in. His face rendered pale, as if he just watched a rated-R horror movie. Your mouth opened slightly in realization. Kenji came out from wherever he last was.

A sharp inhale cuts through the silence.

"[L/n]-san..."

Kenji's voice is barely above a whisper, yet it strikes like a blade. You follow his gaze. He's staring—not at you, but at your hands.

Dark red coats your aching fingers, dripping from your palms in sluggish rivulets. Eyes trailing south, more vital fluid was soaked into your skirt and plastered on your legs and abdomen. Your stomach twists violently. The sight sends ice through your veins; Breaths come in short, frantic gasps.
