THIRD PERSON POV
The auditorium buzzed with excitement as students filled the seats, their voices rising in an animated chorus as they discussed the night's competition. Mikha sat in the front row with the rest of their friend group, her foot tapping rhythmically against the floor, a telltale sign of her impatience. She tried to focus on the performances unfolding on stage, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Y/n, who was backstage preparing.
The nerves in her chest grew with each passing minute. She knew Y/n was nervous. Y/n had never liked the spotlight, always preferring to stay in the background, blending into the crowd. This competition was a big deal for her, and Mikha understood how much it meant.
This morning, as soon as Mikha woke up, she sent Y/n a quick message.
Mikha: Good luck today, Y/n/n! I can't wait to see you shine :)
It wasn't much, but Mikha hoped it would give Y/n a little extra confidence—a reminder that she wasn't alone. Mikha knew how much Y/n struggled with opening up and accepting help. Her and the rest of their friends had wanted to be there for Y/n this morning, but they understood. Y/n was swamped with last-minute event preparations and council duties, leaving her running on empty. There had been no time for a breather, no time for them to talk.
Later that day, Y/n finally had a moment to reply.
Y/n: Thank you, Mikha. I hope the song speaks to you. There's so much I've kept hidden in the lyrics, things I could never quite say out loud.
Mikha's heart skipped a beat as she read Y/n's message.
What was Y/n trying to say? Was it what I thought it was?
The thought lingered in her mind, stirring emotions she wasn't quite ready to unpack. As much as she wanted to dwell on the message, she knew better than to let her mind run wild.
She took a deep breath, pushed aside the wave of uncertainty, and decided she'd talk to Y/n about it later. Maybe even confess. But for now, she focused on the here and now—trusting that when the moment was right, everything would fall into place.
After lunch, Gwen had snuck in a final practice session with Y/n. Mikha had insisted Gwen tell Y/n that the entire squad would be watching her, and they were all incredibly proud of her. Gwen had promised, but Mikha could see the concern on her friend's face—she knew Y/n had so much pressure on her shoulders.
Now, sitting in the auditorium, Mikha couldn't shake the feeling of restlessness that seemed to pulse through her. The other contestants had already performed, each act garnering applause, but none of them held Mikha's attention. Her eyes constantly flicked toward the side stage, waiting for the moment Y/n would step out.
"When's Y/n's turn?" Mikha asked, her voice tinged with impatience. She had already asked four times, but her mind couldn't focus on anything else.
"Eager much?" Jhoana teased, nudging Mikha's shoulder with a mischievous grin. "She's next after this performer. Chill, Mikha."
"You better scream your lungs out, people," Stacy added with a wink. "I want Y/n to really notice our banner."
"She's been killing it in practice. You'll be blown away," Maloi teased, raising an eyebrow at Mikha. "Better be ready to fangirl."
"You won't regret the wait. " Colet said with a sly grin, leaning in.
Mikha rolled her eyes, but the smile creeping up on her face gave her away. "You guys are unbearable," she muttered, poking Maloi next to her. "But if she's as good as you say, I'll be the one waiting for an encore."
