Chapter 22

Aditi's POV

"How is this saree?" Aunt Harshdeep asked as we turned the corner

     I was about to answer when from the corner of my eye I saw a man pull put a gun

"Ms. Verma!" I pushed her out of the way

    The man tried to aim again when I rolled over with Ms. Verma. Getting off the floor I tried to kick him when he caught my leg, and pulled me closer. Oh no he is going to break my leg! I swung my arm punching him in the face. He let go of my leg, and I fell a few steps back. The gun was on the floor by Aunt Harshdeep's feet. Quickly she picked it up and aimed it at the man. Realizing he was going to get caught he grabbed me in a headlock.

"Drop the gun or I will crack her neck" He growled

     I swung my head backwards hitting his nose. He fell backwards as I fell forward. My head didn't feel so good as I fell to the floor. Just then a blur came running towards us.

"Iiiitttt'sssss oookkkaaayyy" I heard his voice in slow motion as he took the gun from Aunt Harshdeep

I blacked out

"Hey Aditi?" I woke up

    I was in an ambulance. My head felt heavy as I slowly turned my head to see Rey sitting next to me.

"Ms. Verma!" I tried to sit up, but the paramedic held me down

"She is fine and so is your aunt" He smiled at me, and touched my cheek, "I'm just glad you are fine"

    I tried to close my eyes for a while to rest, but couldn't do much. I just felt everything was talking longer to process in my brain. I made Rey repeat at least for a time whether or not his mother was okay. However, he was very patient with me and answered me every single time. It's just felt like I was forgetting things. Later on we found out that I had a concussion. I was alright, and could go home, but I had to take things a little slow. Rey drove me home or so I thought, but we ended up at Charlie's apartment

"Why are we here?" I asked Rey

"Sh! Give me a second" He called Rocky, "Rocky cancel the surprise I have some bad news and I am coming in right now"

"No! I want a surprise" I pouted

"Sh!" He opened the door, and let Ms. Verma and Aunt Harshdeep in

"What happened?!" Mom hugged me

"I got attacked, but I broke the guy's nose, and he bled on me a little" I explained

"What?!" Mom looked at Rey

"Let Aditi rest for a while" He caught me as I almost tripped, "As you can see she is still a little off balance"

"Here" Bebe and Bibi sat me down between them while Rey explained what happened

"She will be fine in the morning. I will just have to watch her all night" He explained to my family

"Why is everything decorated? I am so confused? Oh!" I covered my mouth, "Charlie is this your house warming party? I am so sorry I forget to bring something"

"No...Aditi it's your birthday" Charlie looked at me puzzled, "Did you forget?"

"My birthday? What no! My birthday is November 3rd..." I looked at my phone, "Wah! It's my birthday. None of you wished me"

"We wanted to surprise you, but as usual something happened. Why are you so accident prone?!" Aunt Harleem rolled her eyes

"It's not her fault" Rey knelt in front of my Mom and Dad as they were sitting on chairs, "It's my fault. The man was out to get my mother, and I wasn't fast enough to intervene"
