Your mother was a surgeon for what was called 'The Weapon X' program. They were trying to recreate Weapon X, this time to be controlled. They had successfully created a duplicate called X-23.
Before they escaped, you had been in charge of teaching her how to blend in, like a normal kid. You didn't necessarily dislike her, but she made you want to keep your distance.
Now she was proclaimed dead, mostly. But someone was asking around for information. And some how, for some reason, the trail had led him to you and your mom.
You are typing on your computer when you heard a rapid knocking on the door. Whoever it was sounded impatient.
Your mother never answered the doorbell. Not at first, at least. She waited until she was sure that it wasn't someone who was going to hurt her. Especially in her line of business.
That's why you are so surprised when she immediately opens the door.
"Project- Wolverine. What are you doing here? You certainly have caught me in an element of surprise," element of surprise. That was your guys' code word for run. You hear it easily as if she were standing besides you because of your mutant ability. Nothing special, just highly advanced senses.
You could smell the scent of cigars and leather on him, hear the panic in your mothers voice.
Who was this man? The name Wolverine rang a bell, but you weren't sure from where. But one thing was for sure, you needed to run.
You head towards the attic door, slowly sliding it open. "All I want is answers," the man promised. You heard a creaking from below, the sound of a safe door opening.
You heard a slow click, and then the sound of someone being slammed against a wall.
"Mom," you whisper to yourself.
Footsteps echoed up the stairs rapidly, reminding you that you needed to hurry.
You climbed through the walls, waiting for a moment of silence to let you know he was gone. You sniff the air, and smell the scent of cigars and leather get thicker just as something slashes through the wall.
A pair of long metal claws rip the wall open, yanking you out.
"Stop it!" You scream, kicking at him.
"Stop fighting me, kid, or I'll make you," he growls.
"You would attack a kid?" You say as you punch at him.
"I'd rather not, but this information is important to me," he grips you tighter.
"What's your name, kid?" Wolverine asks as he puts you in a chair, tying you up with a rope.
"Why should I answer to you? You just killed my mother!" You snarl. It was true, you could no longer hear her heartbeat.
"Look, kid, I'm sorry. She tried to kill me so I defended myself. Just tell me your name so we can move on," he says, sitting on the table.
"Y/n," you spit out angrily.
"Y/n. See? No need for hostilities," Wolverine smirks.
"I read the files. You left because you were too soft. Well what soft guy leaves a kid an orphan, huh?" You ask.
He sighs, as if he expected this. "Look, kid-"
"I'm not a kid."
"Whatever. Y/n. Your mother was going to volunteer you for the experiments. I was helping. It just so happened that your mother had information on an old friend of mine," he says.
"X-23. You want to find her," you guess.
"And you know where I can, can't you?" Now he was guessing, but he was right. "She came to you asking for help. And you did, didn't you?"
You don't meet his eyes looking away from him. "I wouldn't tell you if I did."
"Look, y/n, I don't want to hurt you. But it's important I find her," he stands up.
"Then why am I tied up?"
"Precautions. I've read your file, done my research like a good little boy. You're a mutant, and a powerful one at that," he says.
"Powerful? As if. All I have is super senses," you struggle against the ropes.
"Another betrayal from your mother. She has been drugging you for years, keeping the rest of your powers from surfacing," Wolverine snorts.
"She's my mother! Don't talk about her like that," you snarl.
"Whatever kid. Tell me what you told X-23," Wolverine brought his claws out.
"You going to kill a kid?"
"No," he put the claws away. "I'm not going to kill you. I'm going to stay with you until you tell me, and then, and only then, will I let you go."
You look at the counter, a plan forming in your mind. You weren't going to give X-23 away, you didn't hate her that much, and you certainly weren't going to give Wolverine the satisfaction of getting the information...
"You have a high opinion of yourself, don't you?" You smirk.
"I tend to think so," he smirks in reply.
"Well..." You purposely don't meet his eyes, not in shame or embarrassment, but to make him think your giving in. "You certainly have reason to," a quick look in the eye, then back down again. "But I won't say anything. You can't make me."
"Alright. Get comfy," he suggests.
You wait about ten minutes in silence, fidgeting now and then. At first it was part of the act, but now you just wanted to be free. Finally you say, "Can't you untie me? I don't doubt that you could catch me should I try to escape, I have absolutely no idea why you think I'm a powerful mutant, so right now these ropes are just uncomfortable!"
He laughs aloud as if he'd been waiting to hear that. "All you have to do is ask nicely."
You fought the urge to spit in his face and hang your head down. "Please. Let. Me. Go," you force out each word with as much venom as you can muster.
"That wasn't too hard, now was it?" He asks as he slashes the ropes free. You rub your wrists mournfully and look at him.
"Jerk."
"Whatever. Now are you going to tell me what you told X-23?" He asks.
"Are you going to tell me what my suppressed power is?" You counter.
He groans in exasperation and nods a little. "Fine. According to the file you can separate atoms. Quite efficiently."
"I can destroy things? Cool. That'll come in handy," you say.
"Yeah yeah don't get any ideas. It'll take about 48 hours for it to wear off. By then I'll be long gone," he promises.
"You say that like you expect me to give in," you notice.
"Well that's because you will," he leans on the other side of the counter, facing you. "Look, y/n, I'm not going to hurt her. I'm her friend."
"That's what they all say," you bite your lip. "She came here this morning. Five or so hours ago," a smile creeps over your face. "Which is perfectly within the 24 hour time frame."
You lunge for the cabinet, pulling out the amnesia pills and ripping it open.
"Kid-" Wolverine jumps towards you, but you avoid him, running into the bathroom and locking the door. You don't have much time, so you hurriedly fill up a paper cup with water, then swallow the pill.
Wolverine busts down the door. "I'm not going to be your prisoner. Be sure to tell me what I missed," you smile just as your eyes roll back and you collapse on the floor.
Wolverine takes you to the Mansion, where Professor examines you and explains what you did. When you wake up, you have no memory of the past twenty four hours. You forgot about your mothers death and meeting up with X-23.
And you forget meeting Wolverine, who reintroduces himself to you before explaining everything. He seems angry with you, but not terribly so.
And he's kinda annoying.
