Chapter Two

I couldn't believe it. Tears rolling down my cheeks, i was speechless.

My fucking brother was dead.

Rowan just sat there holding me in his embrace, and rocking me back and forth like a baby.

We had driven to the hospital where the injured were, also making sure to leave my mum a nice long note and unplugging our television.

I didn't want her to know, at least not until it was set in stone. She'd be crushed.

Of course when we got there.. We asked for Harper Lancaster, hoping for the nurse to say a room number and escort us to it.

But, i can assure you that didn't happen. The exact opposite did, actually.

The nurse had gave me a sweet smile, "Harper? Sweetie i'm sorry but we have no Harper staying here currently."

Rowan glanced back at me as i rushed out of the hospital, i couldn't take it. My brother didn't beat the odds, he was dead. And there was nothing i could do about it.

I just sat in the dirt. Not moving, and just plain sat there. Harper was dead, at the age of twenty six. He had a life to live. He won't be able to fall in love, get married, have children, watch them grow up while he grows old, and then grow old with his wife.

He won't experience that, and it's so damn unfair i can't take it. What about Piper? She looked up to Harper like he was gold. She won't have him here to see her go on her first date, or to prom, graduate, nothing. Harper can't interrogate the first of many heartbreaks she brings home.

This is unreal. I started to sob as i got a text from someone. I didn't care though. I was to upset to care. But, i had to look at it. It could be Mum.

It was from Natalie.

Nat- Heya babe, i was asleep. :) Sorry, most of us don't get up at five in the morning . Though, I assume Rowan helped you out.Harper's coming home, eh? Im terrified to see if he'll pick up where we left of or just ignore me. Oh well. See you at 12.x

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. I forgot about that too! I can't be the one to tell her. I just cant.

Three years back, right before Harp left for the army.. He confessed to Natalie that he's been in love with her ever since she fell off the playground swing right in front of his eyes. I assume she fell into his heart. And then ending up making love with her.

For some reason, that made me cry more. Like full on tears. My mascara was down my face now which stained my cheeks. And as always, Rowan comes out. Perfect timing that boy has.

He just sits down beside me and holds me close. We don't say anything for awhile.

I seemed to like it like that, but Rowan had to interrupt. " I asked the nurse about the crash, and who was injured..." He trailed off.

This cause me to sit up and look at him " And who would that be?" I retorted. I didn't care to know, especially since Harper wasn't one of them.

Rowan's eyes widened with sorrow but still continued on, " Damian Kennedy and Carter Jacobs."

I had no clue who that Kennedy dude was, but when i heard the last name Jacobs come out of Rowan's mouth. I froze.

"Jacobs as in Arden Jacobs.."
