Captain Rex, who bore witness to one of his good friend's, CT-5555, otherwise known as Fives, death in an abandoned Corusaunt warehouse, felt a great amount of unease when investigating deeper into his brother's account. Fives told Rex in the warehouse, before he was brutally shot by one of his own brothers, Commander Fox, that all clone troopers had genetically modified chips implanted in their brains, which could command all soldiers to perform any task necessary, after the Chancellor revealed this to Fives himself. Although when receiving this knowledge, Rex appeared as indifferent towards his best friend, the Captain ultimately believed every single word that Fives told him, that is, once he discovered what he had said was truly factual. When delivering Fives' saddened body back to Kamino, on the cold Jedi temple landing platform, the captain requested that he be permitted to come along, to investigate the entire situation.
"I do not think it would be best that you return to Kamino." Said Nala Se, a Kaminoan scientist, walking atop a Republic landing platform towards a Republic shuttle, accompanying Fives Body.
"With all due respect," the Captain suggested, "I have a least some say in this matter. After all, Fives was my closest brother, my friend. He told me something that has rattled my brain, literally; only me."
"No; it simply cannot be done."
"Why?" Rex now angrily asked. He knew better than to repeat what Fives had done; to use force rather than have a good talk over the matter. He now realized, gazing into Nala Se's crisp, frozen eyes, that when fives argued with the scientist, he put himself in a vulnerable position, one that Nala Se had to have taken great advantage of.
"Have you forgotten who I am, Captain Rex? You may have felt whatever you have felt, but whatever it was, it has no effect on neither you nor your late companion." In a way, Se knew exactly what was going on through Rex's mind. She could feel the tension, the anger and hate flow through Rex, as it also did Fives, but she also felt a sense of civilness, unlike the fallen clone.
Rex now grew even hotter in a fury rage of an inner war, but said, not anxiously, knowing that Nala Se would take advantage of his rage when able to,
"I'm sorry, doctor, but I AM coming along. This was my brother, and I have a right to know whether or not what he said was true."
Se's eyes grew hot, yet ice cold, scrunching her eyelids close together, tight.
"Not to fear, Dr. Se," Obi-Wan Kenobi intervened, approaching the two from one of the platform's doors that lead back inside the temple. "I permit the Captain to come along; I'm sure he'll be alright. Besides, he may be of some help to answer any lingering questions." And with a pleasant smirk, attempting to lesson the height of the opposing arguments, Kenobi waited for Se's reply.
"As you wish, Master Kenobi." Nala Se said stiffly, coldly, without any expression, though inside the doctor felt an upmost rage. And yet, something else. The doctor was scared, frightened that the captain might discover Darth Sidious's evil plan, and her involvement in it. Se knew that if any other clone were to find out this terrible truth, the Jedi might actually believe them, this time, which would ultimately lead to Sidious's demise, and punishment of the doctor for her "clumsiness". Se's life would disappear, just as Sidious' diabolical plan would, and that was obviously something that couldn't, wouldn't, happen. With a clasp of the landing ramp, air steaming through the vents, the Republic shuttle took to the stratosphere. The Captain, pacing his mind, sat quietly near his lost, forgotten brother, lying within a hibernation chamber. Although the captain was branded and manufactured as a reproduction of Jango Fett, the Galaxy's assumably greatest bounty hunter, he stood quietly, stoically, almost as a Jedi. Rex thought about, trying to piece together, everything that Fives so desperately told him.
The nightmares are over. Finally over.
Good soldiers follow orders. *sounds of blasterfire ring*
The Chancellor is in on it. A massive deception, a conspiracy. *a dark, sadistic chuckle sings through the captain's ear*
He told me! All clones have chips, implanted in their brains! *with a snap-hiss, a lightsaber sparks*
You have to believe-- *another shot, and a Jedi lay dead*The voices, the sounds, the pictures stopped.
Rex, suddenly, unexplainably exhausted, found himself on the glacial, steel floor, hands and knees pressed hard on its surface, eyes flickering. Blinking rapidly, the Captain strived to get an image out of his head; a terrible, controversial picture. Rex was no Jedi, not even close, but his advanced mind frame, and skillful tactics allowed him to surpass the intelligence of many other Clone Troopers. However, what he saw was no byproduct of intelligence, no seed of skill; it was a vision, foreboding something no man could imagine: Order 66.
Rex couldn't explain what he bore witness to, nor could any Jedi, for his vision did not connect through The Force. It bounded though another spiritual realm, similar to The Force, yet very different; this realm was known as The Truth. When Fives was confronted by the Chancellor, Darth Sidious, his mind tapped into The Truth, allowing him to understand its power. Fives realized that The Truth could break any spell, any lie, and all pain. Although the amounts of contrasting opinions are many, there is only one Truth, and that power could create impacts that not even The Force could counter. And now, Rex too, had discovered its power.
"It's true... It's all true" Rex kept on repeating to himself, palms scraping his scalp, hoping to get this image out of his brain.
"What he said was all true! It can't be. No. It is!" Rex had never felt such an impactful amount of this force, and didn't know what to do. He began to act, breath, and think like Fives, before he was shot.
"I... I have to tell the Jedi." Rex knew he had to tell someone, anyone, but the way he was now acting, no one would believe him. Rex didn't know this; he barely knew, or could think of anything at the moment, so he ran. Captain Rex ran to the cockpit, punched the door opener, and yelled, "We have to go back! Turn aroun--" It was too late; with a flick of a switch, the ship had gone into hyperspace.
