•The sun had just begun to rise, casting a soft golden glow through the trees as Althaea and Aurêlia finally emerged from the dense forest. Their bodies ached from the relentless journey through the night,
but the promise of safety and reunion with the others pushed them onward. The moon had given way to the first light of dawn, and ahead, they could see the campfire where the group waited.Althaea's heart lifted as she caught sight of Ithara standing near the fire, her bright eyes searching the surrounding forest.
When she spotted her sisters, her face broke into a wide grin, and she rushed forward,
her long, green cloak trailing behind her."I knew you would make it," Ithara exclaimed, throwing her arms around them both.
"You look like you've been through the storm, but I knew you would make it back."Althaea squeezed her younger sister tightly before pulling back.
"We had to, Ithara. The shadows are growing darker."Aurêlia gave a faint smile, though the strain of their journey was evident in her tired eyes.
"We'll have time to rest soon."The rest of the group had gathered around the fire: Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, Frodo, Sam, and Merry.
As the sisters approached, the men gave them solemn nods of greeting.
"Welcome back,"
Aragorn said quietly, his gaze lingering on Althaea for a moment longer than necessary.
A flicker of something passed between them, but neither spoke of it.Legolas, however, couldn't help but let out a small sigh, crossing his arms.
"I trust the forest treated you well?"
His tone, though polite, carried an undercurrent of something sharp, something Althaea couldn't place."It treated us as well as any forest can when you're being hunted,"
Althaea replied coolly, meeting his gaze.Legolas said nothing further but shot her a glance that made it clear their tension hadn't dissipated.
"Alright, we've wasted enough time. We should move on," Frodo said, his voice tired but determined.
The group set off together, the soft thudding of boots against the earth blending with the occasional rustle of the wind through the trees. Ithara, her youthful energy returning, walked beside Gimli, who was telling her one of his many stories with exaggerated flair.
"And then, I told him, 'That's not a rock, that's my cousin!'"
Gimli boomed, causing Ithara to laugh."I don't believe you," Ithara teased, grinning at the dwarf. "But I wish I had seen the look on his face."
"Ah, the look of a good, sturdy dwarf telling tales,"
Gimli said, grinning broadly.Meanwhile, Aragorn and Aurêlia walked a little ahead, engaged in quiet conversation.
The contrast between the Human man and the Elve girl was striking, but there was something undeniably genuine in their bond, even if unspoken. Aurêlia's laugh rang out as Aragorn shared a funny tale about his travels."Come now, tell me again about the giant spider," Aurêlia said with a raised brow.
Aragorn laughed, a deep, rich sound.
"You would prefer to hear of my battle with the Wargs instead?"
