Pink petals scattered on the stone path, decorating it beautifully. Some were smashed, likely from being trampled by the shoes of all your classmates.
You walked silently, the only noise being the sound of the wind brushing past your ears and the occasional thump of your bag hitting your side as you walked.
Usually, you would have a friend or two by your side, but classes were tiring today and a little silence would do wonders for your social battery.
Your eyes were trained on the floor as you walked, not paying much attention to anything except the sound of your thoughts running rapidly through your head. That was until you saw an oddly familiar pair of shoes approaching.
Quickly looking up, you were quick enough to move out of the way when someone had bumped into you. Your chest met theirs and you quickly stumbled to the floor, landing on the stone with a gasp.
"Ah, (Y/n)! I'm sorry I wasn't looking where I was waking!" You look up to see your classmate and good friend, Sayaka offering you a hand. Letting out an amused laugh, you took her extended hand. You pulled yourself up with her help.
"You're fine, neither was I." You shake your head before looking at her. Your brows furrow slightly at the look on her face, tilting your head slightly.
She looked sad and distressed. She seemed to realize you could tell how she was feeling, quickly putting up a mask with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Still, I'm sorry for bumping into you." Your lips parted to respond, but nothing came out.
You leaned closer to her, brows furrowed as you whispered. "Is everything okay...?" Her eyes widened at your question, her eyes growing glossy. She lets out a sigh before looking away from you, leaning her cheek into her hand.
"Not... really. Do you mind if I talk about it?" You shake your head, giving her a soft smile before taking one of your hands in hers. You pulled her over to a nearby bench, setting her down and filling the space next to her.
She put her head in her hands, clearly trying her best to not cry in front of you. "Well, you know Satomi? My friend?" Your brows furrowed, racking your brain slightly before nodding your head.
"Yeah, the one in your band, right?" The question seemed to finally break the dam, causing tears to fall down her cheeks. Your eyes widened, freaking out at the reaction.
You quickly pulled her into a side hug, not knowing how else to console her. "She... She left the group." You let out a sigh, knowing how much her Idol group and career meant to her. The back of her shirt moved with your hand as you rubbed soothing circles on her back.
Leaning closer to her, you tried to get a better grip on the situation. "Did she tell you why?" You spoke in a quiet voice, trying to soothe her as much as possible.
She nodded her head, quickly whipping her eyes. "Yes, yes... she's becoming a solo artist." She looked into your eyes, a pout on her face. Her blue eyes were shadowed by her droopy eyelids and long lashes, small red bags under her eyes.
"It's not like I'm mad at her, in fact, I completely understand why she would go solo... it gets her name out there more, but..." She slowly lost track of her words, finding it hard to articulate how she was particularly feeling.
Your hand slowly moved from her back to her shoulder, tilting your head to the side to get a better look at her. "You feel kinda left behind?" Her eyes flick to yours, tears filling the brim of her eyes once more. She pursed her lips, letting out a quiet whimper before shoving her face into your shoulder.
A yelp left your lips, surprised by the sudden movement. You look down at her, slowly using your hand to pat her on the head. After a few seconds, she pulled away, wiping away mascara that you could already tell was on your shirt.
She let out a sigh, looking at your damp shoulder. "Ugh, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to cry like that." She had a familiar pout on her face, causing you to let out an airy laugh at her apology. You shake your head, dismissively waving your hand.
"Don't apologize, if anything I'm glad you could trust me enough to tell me what was worrying you." You look at her with a soft smile, your hand moving down to cup hers. Flashing her a bright smile, you pulled her closer to you.
Tilting your head to the sight slightly, you look at her with bright eyes. "But just because she's leaving doesn't mean you guys won't talk anymore." Much to her dismay, you pulled your hands away. "From what you've told me, she seems like a sweet girl. I'm sure she'll keep in touch with you all!"
You look at her, waiting for a response. Her eyes were wide as she stared back at you, seemingly lost in thought. Out of respect, you didn't interrupt her, instead waiting silently for her to gather herself.
A small warm smile creeps up her lips, her cheeks flashing slightly in an expression much different from the one you saw just a few minutes ago. You felt something flutter inside of you, glad you were able to bring that joy and color back to her features.
"It's funny when you were saying that... It made me think of a memory I have," she pushes a strand of hair behind her ear, looking away from you in embarrassment. "You reminded me of this girl I saw on TV, it's funny... she's actually the reason I'm a pop star. It was the first time I had seen an idol on TV, or at all actually. She was singing and dancing, and she had this huge smile on her face... You made me feel that same sense of hope that she did."
Your eyes widen at the information, surprised your comforting had done so much for her. A light blush dusted on your cheek, not even visible to her.
Her eyes flicked back to yours, a nervous smile on her lips. "Do you wanna go to the nearby Café? Don't worry, I'll pay!" You were even more surprised at her invitation, quickly shaking your head.
"Don't worry about that, I can pay! For both of us!" Her face grew even redder, her hand quickly moving to grab yours and pull you off the bench. You almost trip as she leads you to the café, her hair whipping behind her and her hand squeezing yours in a tight grip.
