Next day Evening- Thakur Palace
Chandni untied her apron, stopping what she was doing. Her mother-in-law called from the kitchen door, "We have guests. Prepare snacks and tea."
Chandni nodded and quickly got to work. She made a plate of tasty snacks and brewed hot tea. The kitchen was filled with the nice smell of tea.
Twenty minutes passed, and Chandni finished. The kitchen was clean, and the snacks looked nice. Chandni stepped back, happy with her work.
Chandni's mother-in-law inspected the spread, nodding in approval. "Well done, Chandni. Take it to the living room."
She lifted the tray, carefully carrying it to the living room, with a pleasant smile on her face. But it disappears when she finds no one there.
“They are at the terrace”, her mother-in-law instructed her from behind. She nodded slightly in response and turned her feet towards the staircase.
Reaching near the door of the terrace she heard the voices of laughter of men, her steps halted for a second but ignoring the second thoughts coming in her brain, she opened the door.
A dead silence spread around. When two pairs of eyes were stuck on her. Her expression got tense identifying two of them but she maintained her composure.
“Well look who we have here, my dear brother’s beautiful wife”, Viraj said with a teasing grin. He got up from his place and moved towards Chandni. “May I help you”, he said and took the tray of food from her hand while brushing his fingers on her. She moved back a little.
Chandni's eyes narrowed slightly at Viraj's touch, but she maintained her composure.
"Thank you," she said coolly, her voice steady.
Viraj smiled and placed the tray on the table. "So, Chandni, how have you been?, it's been so long since I have been here but we didn't have a word yet," he said, his eyes roaming over her face.
Chandni's expression remained polite, but distant. "I've been well, thank you," she replied shortly.
The third man, who had been quietly observing the exchange, spoke up. "Bhabhi, it's nice to see you again," Neil said, his voice deep and smooth. Looking at his face she immediately went back to the memory of the day when he touched her inappropriately.
“Where is Virendra?”out of nowhere she asked Viraj. She herself was stunned, from where these words came in her mouth. “Are you missing him?”, he teased.
“Sorry, I am late”, an identible voice came from behind. A strong sense of relief ran down from her spine. It's her husband. She took a deep breath in relief and turned towards his direction. Their eyes met and in no time Virendra understood her uneasiness.
“Oh! My Brother, your wife was asking about you”, said Viraj with a fake smile.
Virendra's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Viraj, his expression unreadable. "I see," he said, his voice neutral.
