Jaipur

The next morning, the soft chirping of birds woke Tara. She stretched, the silver bracelet on her wrist catching the morning sunlight streaming through the window. A faint smile graced her lips as she remembered the events of the previous evening. For the first time in years, she felt like she belonged.

A knock on the door startled her. "Tara, are you awake?" Surya’s voice came through the door, warm and gentle.

Tara quickly wrapped a dupatta around her shoulders and opened the door, surprised to find him standing there, a tray with two steaming cups of chai in his hands.

“Good morning,” he greeted with a smile. “I thought I’d bring you some chai before you started your day.”

She blinked, caught off guard by the gesture. “Good morning… You didn’t have to—”

“I wanted to,” he cut her off, stepping inside and setting the tray on the small table by the window. He gestured for her to sit. “I have some news for you.”

Tara took a seat, her curiosity piqued. “What news?”

Surya handed her a cup of chai and sat across from her, his gaze soft but filled with excitement. “I wrapped up all my meetings yesterday.”

Tara’s eyes widened. “But I thought you’d be busy today too?”

“I was supposed to be,” he admitted with a shrug. “But I wanted to spend the day with you instead. I thought we could explore Jaipur together. Just the two of us.”

Her heart skipped a beat at his words. “Surya, you didn’t have to do that. Your work—”

“Can wait,” he interrupted firmly. “You’ve spent so much of your life putting others first, Tara. Today is about you. About us. So, what do you say?”

Tara hesitated for a moment, overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness. But the excitement bubbling inside her was impossible to ignore. “I’d love that,” she said softly, a genuine smile spreading across her face.

Surya’s grin widened. “Great. Finish your chai and get ready. We have a long day ahead.”

An hour later, they were walking through the bustling streets of Jaipur, the city alive with vibrant colors and the sounds of life. Surya had planned an itinerary filled with the city’s most iconic spots, starting with the magnificent Amber Fort.

As they climbed the winding pathways of the fort, Tara couldn’t help but marvel at its grandeur. The intricate carvings, the sprawling courtyards, and the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills left her in awe.

“Do you like it?” Surya asked as they stood on a high terrace, overlooking the Maota Lake below.

“It’s beautiful,” Tara replied, her voice filled with wonder. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”
