Poppy was thrown over the creatures shoulder as we broke through a window, hitting the ground hard enough to crack it, my feet barely feeling it.
We've never done that before.
'I have never had enough energy to land and transmit potential damage into kinetic energy to disperse into the surrounding area.'
Touché asshole. Touché
The gate was broken off, the lock and latch thrown aside as the darkness enveloped us, home closer and closer by the second as I tried to figure out how I would survive.
I can't stay at home. The Boss is going to kill me as soon as he finds out. I can't leave Poppy though, she's survived before, but only through The Boss, and if he got his hands on her, with her DNA now?
I shuddered, causing my friend to stir, entering my head.
'Are you hypothesising ideas on how we stay as far away from 'The Boss' as possible, Adam?'
You can read my mind, what do you think?
'I may have an idea.'
I laid Poppy down on my sofa, heading into the kitchen and into a drawer. It took me a while to dig through all the old electronics and spare wires I had laying around, but eventually I found it: My first phone, charger, plug and all. I flipped it in my hands a few times, thinking about whether this plan was plausible. I kept digging, looking for any other way out, but found nothing. I set it up to charge, praying it would, before heading upstairs. I stripped off in the bathroom, running a shower I stood still under for a long time, numb to the heat and what I'd just done. Somewhere along the line, my mind and mental state steeled: In my eyes, in this situation, the ends justify the means. My progress rids the world of evil, and keeps the only other friend I had alive, even if it was barely. It was thanks to my stowaway she was able to lay still: Whilst on the move to my house, he'd passed some form of energy through our body to hers, knowing her DNA was now intertwined with ours, and it seemed to fix her quickly. She wasn't perfect yet, she'd need more time, but for now, we had that. Once Id thoroughly scrubbed my skin, and let my body wallow for what might be the final time, I stepped out, wrapping a towel around my body as I moved to my bedroom, noting how empty it now felt.
He betrayed us. He got what he deserved. I just wish he lived a little longer.
I changed into the most formal thing I had: A navy blue suit, with a pressed white shirt, the collar tucked and the sleeves formed. I put a mini fake rose I held onto in the jacket pocket, before looking at myself, pushing the frown off my face. I knew what was coming next. I'd accepted it. Now it was time to convince Poppy it was. I moved towards the living room, taking the steps slowly, flicking the lights on as I closed the blinds. It caused Poppy to stir as I sat near to her, gently taking her shoulder and shaking it. She woke slowly, with a shocked expression and enough adrenaline to launch her off her resting face. It took a long time to explain how she ended up here, and even longer to explain the plan. She protested, fought the idea, but after half an hour, we both finally saw the same side of the coin, even if she wasn't happy about it. She headed upstairs to change and get packed as I boiled the kettle, another coffee already made, begging to be filled and consumed as soon as possible. By the time I'd made it, sat down, and gone through half of it, she re-appeared, covered head to toe, a suitcase by her side. We exchanged no words as I reached under the table, taking out the wad of cash I kept, the same wad I found in my parent's room after cleaning it for the umpteenth time. I pointed at a cupboard, Poppy followed, finding a check book inside. I signed it for all the money inside, an additional note explaining how she was now the holder of my funds, before we stood in front of each other. I took her hand, letting the creature do what it needed to, before I let go. We had a long hug, gripping each other tightly, before finally letting go.
"You'll come find me, right?" She said, breaking the silence as she got to the door, my weak and damaged body only a few steps behind.
"Of course I will. Get out of here, I'll call you in a few days." I said, trying to keep the lie alive. She nodded, putting her head down as she stepped out, shutting the door behind her, leaving the house the way it was all those days ago. The same isolation I was comfortable with now felt suffocating as I took my phone off charge, dialling the numbers to Moresby. It rang three times before someone answered.
"Hello there, welcome to Moresby High's weekend receptionist, how may I-"
"Adam Wolfe. Patch me to The Boss. I know who you are." I said, determination laced in my tone. She didn't say another word as my number was passed on, not even a single ring getting through before he picked it up, his voice angrier than mine
"When I fucking find you Adam, I swear to whatever God you believe in-"
"I'm home." I cut him off, unbothered with his threats. He paused, before laughing, clearly not catching on to why I was being so brave.
"And why have you told me that?"
"I can't run from you. Whatever group of people your with, they clearly have a lot more power than you let on. Guns, men, connections, hell, they all had those fancy new bullets that don't work."
"You, Adam, are either really Brave, or really, really stupid, I just can't work out with one you are."
"Let's talk."
"Adam, it's far too fucking late for that."
"I have enough money to escape. You know that. I'm here. Come here. Let's talk. There's still a chance for us to work something out."
Silence was my response, the only sound accompanying it being the blood in my ears rushing and my heart rate continuously rising. Seconds felt like decades, time ticked on relentlessly, my unease grew, until finally, I heard my sentence:
"I'll humour you. I'm coming, but not alone."
"I'll be in the kitchen, the doors open. But only us in there, your 'friends' can stand and be intimidating outside."
"As you wish. However, If you are attempting to trick me Adam, or you try anything funny, I will tear your lungs out through your throat."
"I've done that. It's a lot harder than it seems."
My response was a grunt as he hung up. I turned the phone off, put it face down, and turned all my lights on, before sitting at the end of the table, legs crossed.
Waiting for The Boss to pay me a visit.

Unstoppable: Revitalized
AksiI'd written 'Unstoppable' before, but due to me rushing and the youth in my body, the book seemed to loop and never progress. I think the idea is fantastic, but the execution is poor. And I plan to change that. ---------------------- ORIGINAL DESCR...
