Daniel made his way from physics, down the hall, a left turn, another hall, then a right, to the office to "pick up" his phone, one of the most ridiculous things he'd ever had to do in all his life as a high school student.
Jenny made her way from calculus, down the hall, a right turn, another hall, then a left, to the office to "pick up" Jared's phone. Apparently, he decided to be a bumbling idiot in his own English class and try to text Jenny in hers. And then he pulled the, "I have practice, sweetie" card, and Jenny ended up going to get it.
The two stood across the hall from each other, the door in between them.
Daniel raised an eyebrow, and Jenny raised one of hers.
She started to the door, hoping that he was a gentleman, otherwise whatever was going on between them would be over much sooner than it could ever start. He was though; he let her go first, and followed behind.
Jenny grabbed Jared's phone, and Daniel grabbed his own.
Jenny started for the door out of the office, and this time as she exited, Daniel came up behind her and whispered, "You're not new here." And turned the opposite direction as her, and continued walking.
Jenny raised her eyebrow, clearly remembering her earlier comment, but instead of accepting his words, she simply said to herself, "No shit."

Daniel was not a remarkable driver. This was clear to both his parents, and to his friends back home. That's why when the moved to Washington, he was not to get his license here until he was eighteen, it was a ridiculous rule set by his parents, but one they were sure had already started to save them insurance money. That was why he was walking the nine blocks to the party, that's also why he got there fashionably late.
He walked in on one of the craziest house parties he had ever attended.
Daniel stood in the walkway for a minute or two before being bumped into and shoved forward by a drunk girl, with a guy's arms wrapped around her waist. Daniel shook the image off before ducking inside the doorway and wandering into a party filled with jocks, cheerleaders, and other un-sporty populars.
Jenny saw him immediately.
"Who invited him?" She wondered, and unfortunately, out loud. Jared, Kaylynn, Max, Andrew, and a couple other people in their group turned their heads to look at the person Jenny was wondering about.
Jared snorted, "What? That twerp?"
"Oh, uh, that might have been me," Andrew muttered before Jenny could say that he wasn't a twerp.
"Are you fucking kidding me, Andrew?" Jared groaned, rubbing his temple.
The two started to argue about Daniel, he didn't know it was about him, but he did know they were arguing. Daniel glanced in their direction as they started to become louder, and then he saw Jenny. But Jenny had already seen him.
So Daniel stood there, and stared at Jenny, and Jenny didn't move from the counter, and stared back at Daniel. And soon it was like a competition, who could last longest. It was quite strange to see. Two fumbling idiots fighting over who invited a twerp, who a pretty girl was staring at, who happened to be dating one of the fumbling idiots, and the twerp was staring back at the girl.
Jared and Andrew never noticed them staring at each other. And Jenny lost.
She had started sipping the murky intoxicating liquid in her red solo cup when Jared shoved Andrew into her, and knocked her off the counter, spilling her drink on her.
Daniel raised an eyebrow as Jared rushed forwards to help her up, and she cussed him out, tossing her cup at him and storming out of the house past Daniel. But before Jared could rush after her, Andrew stood back up, clearly tipsy, and punched him straight in the mouth.
Upbeat music still filled the house, and pretty soon people were cheering the boys on as they brawled. Daniel shook his head at the stupidity, and turned to go after Jenny.
He jogged out the doorway, and to the end of the walk before standing and looking around for her.
She was walking down the street, in the direction he had come, muttering and pulling off her jean jacket.
Daniel began to jog towards her when he heard louder footsteps behind him, angry footsteps. He was about six feet away when someone who looked a lot like Jared stepped in front of him and growled, "Stay the fuck away from my girlfriend, douche," and punched him in the nose.
Jenny, of course, turned, and her eyes widened. "Oh my God." And then she was running towards Jared crowing over Daniel who was laid on the ground clutching his nose which was pouring out blood.
"Are you fucking kidding me, Jared?" She yelled, kneeling down by Daniel, "What the hell is your problem?"
"Hopefully, I don't have one anymore," he growled, spat next to Daniel's head, and began back towards the house.
Jenny didn't really know what to do so she stared at Daniel with her doe eyes, and began apologizing rapidly. She sat on her knees, and held his hand, because she really didn't know what else to do.
Daniel just groaned, because he didn't either, and there was pain.
"I'm so sorry," she murmured.
"It's okay," Daniel said, sitting up and wiping the blood from his face with his shirt.
He winced, which made Jenny wince.
The two sat there for a bit, Jenny stopped apologizing, Daniel stopped bleeding.
"I'm Jenny, by the way, and I'm not new," she tried to smile.
"I'm Daniel," he chuckled quietly, "I am."
