Pj's POV:
"I drunk, officer. I is not... I-I.... Swear!" Chris exclaims, barging in at 3:00 in the morning.
"Chris? Where have you been?" I exclaim. He said he'd be home by midnight, so I decided to wait up for him, but he never showed up.
"I told you. I'm not drunk," He slurred.
"Yeah. Well, that's not what I asked. Why don't we get you into bed and talk about this tomorrow. You're gonna have a pretty bad hangover." I say, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"I... I. What hangover? I feel totally normal."
"Alright Chris. Go. To. Bed. Now," I practically yell at him.
"But... But. I can't find my thumb," He says. I look down at his fist and sigh, undoing it.
"Here's your thumb, Chris," I grumble at him. He laughs like an idiot, and I can't help but smile even though I'm pissed at him. It's weird but, every time he laughs I can't help but smile.
After helping him into his room, he takes off his shirt and undoes the covers on his bed. Without even changing into pajamas, he gets in.
"P-P-Pj!" He yells as I walk out.
"Yeah, Chris?" I ask with a sigh.
"What would happen if I woke up as a chicken nugget?" He asks. Big sigh there, as you can imagine.
"Chris, it's almost physically impossible to wake up as a chicken nugget. I promise. Now go to bed," I tell him as sternly as possible.
"B-b-b... But Pj!" He yells again.
"What Chris?" I demand.
"Will you stay with me?" He asks.
"Chris, you're not five. Just go to bed."
"But Pj, my tummy hurts," He drunkenly pouts. Like I said, the hangover from hell.
"Ugh. Fine Chris. I'll stay with you for a little while, but only if you go to sleep," I say. He holds his arms out, like he wants me to climb in with him, so begrudgingly, I do. And as soon as I do, he throws up on me.
"God dammit Chris!" I yell. He looks at me like he's about to cry.
"I'm sorry, Pj." He says. I say nothing, just go to the kitchen to get a plastic bag to clean it up with.
"Pj, are you mad at me?" He asks as I take his comforter off of his bed.
"Just a little bit," I mumble.
"I'm sorry, Chris," He says, sadly.
"You're Chris," I say.
"I... I am?" He asks. I nod.
"Yeah. Do you want me to get you a clean blanket?" I ask him.
"I wanna sleep on the couch," He remarks.
"Then go to the couch?" I suggest.
"Carry me?" He asks.
"Chris Kendall, you are not fucking five years old. If you want to sleep on the couch, then walk to the damn couch!" I yell at him.
"But my tummy hurts," He pouts.
"Chris, go to the couch," I say sternly.
"But can you carry me next time?" He asks.
"Maybe, Chris," I tell him. He smiles up at me, and I almost smile back. But I can't. I have to be authoritative, not a his friend or an overly supportive mother, if I actually want him to listen to me.
Finally, he gets up and goes to the couch.
"Pj!" He yells again.
"What the hell do you want? I have to go to bed sometime too!" I yell at him.
"My tummy still hurts."
"Go. To. Bed. Chris," I tell him.
"But I'm on the couch," He pouts.
"Then sleep," I suggest to him.
"But I'm not tired," He says.
"Just shut your fucking eyes and try to sleep because that's what I'm going to do," I say, storming off to my room.
"Pj, do we have any hands?" Chris yells from the living room. I immediately go in there, trying to figure out what the hell he's talking about.
"What, Chris?" I demand.
"Well, Carl said that hands cure tummy aches and rumblies, so maybe if I had some hands, I could feel better too," He says.
"I'm done, Chris. I'm going to bed, okay?" I tell him.
"Doctor Pj, come fix my tummy," He says.
"What?" I ask him. I honestly don't know what to say anymore.
"Well, you said you had a doctorate, so maybe you could fix me?" He asks. Again, I sigh.
"Chris, that was a doctorate in social media. It was a joke. And you're just hung over. You'll be fine," I tell him.
"But you're still a doctor, right?" He asks me.
"No, Chris. Please just... go to sleep." I beg, face planting on the couch next to him.
"Okay, Peej," He says. I don't have the energy to get up. I don't want to get up. I just lay there, next to my best friend. Maybe I am ready to kill him, and I'm probably going to in the morning, but he's still my best friend.
