Knock knock.
I ignored it, but they just kept knocking. I checked the time, it was only eight in the morning. I normally woke up around eleven on the weekends, today I wanted to get up much later. "Sabrina, it's me." I groaned, "Nick, it's too early." I said, covering my face with my blanket. "I'm coming in," he said, "Whatever." I grumbled, and heard the door creek open. "I brought you your favorite," he said, I peeked through my covers. "What is it?" I asked, Nick was holding up a white paper bag with a couple of brown hearts on it. I instantly knew, I sat up in my bed and smiled at him. "You know me too well," I said, he sat down next to me. "It is the only way to get you up earlier than eleven on the weekends." he teased, I rolled my eyes and tried to snatch the bag from him.
"What's the magic word?" he asked, I leaned forward and snatched it. "Now." I said, "You're such a heathen." he joked, I playfully punched him. "And you're a dope." I said, while sticking my hand into the bag. I pulled out the beautiful blueberry bags that were still warm and then the strawberry cream cheese that was in a small plastic cup. Quickly I put the cream onto my bagel, I was suddenly really hungry. "Why are you up so early?" I asked, "I wanted to check on you, you said we'd talk today." he said, "I know, but I thought we were going to later." I admitted, as I leaned back on my bed and took a bite. "You want milk?" he asked, while getting up. "Yes please." I said, I covered my mouth while I was chewing.
Nick came back after five minutes with a cup of milk in his hand and a water bottle in the other. He sat back down next to me, it had been a while since we both hung out in the morning. We used to all the time before he started to date Dorcas. "So how did last night go?" I asked, cream cheese nearly fell onto my covers but I quickly scooped it up with my finger then licked it off. He sighed and laid down, he put his arms behind his head and crossed them. "Not great." he admitted, I felt my face naturally drop. "What happened?!" I asked, "First we should be talking about what happened between you and Charlie." he replied, you could hear the disgust in his voice when he said his name.
"That, we can talk about later." I said, suddenly losing my appetite. For a moment I had forgotten about how disappointing last night was, when I got home I cried for hours about it. I wondered if Nick could see it, I wanted to run to the bathroom to check and see if my eyes were puffy. "No, you go first." he said, I sighed. I put the half eaten bagel away into the white bag and placed it on top of my night stand. I took a deep breath, "You guys were right." I exhaled. "What did he do?" he asked, then sat up. I gulped. "If it wasn't for Harvey, I never would have known." I started, "I went to the bathroom and he was outside waiting to tell me."
"Tell you what?" he asked,
"He told me that Charlie put alcohol in my drink,"
"He what?!" his eyebrows furrowed.
I looked down, "Apparently he and his friends were all doing it."
"So he was trying to get you drunk?! Is that why you're still in bed? How are you feeling?!"
I put my hand up to stop him from ranting.
"I'm fine," I admitted, although my head did hurt a little but I thought that was because of all the crying I had done the night before. He stared at me with a look of both concern and disbelief.
"Harvey also overheard him tell his friends some crude things." I chewed the inside of my cheek.
This was the part that hurt the most, the fact that I wanted to give Charlie a chance when he never even considered anything serious to begin with. I was just a number to him, it made me sick to my stomach. I felt like I should have known. Everyone had told me, but I wanted to hope for the best with him.
"What did he say, Sabrina?!" he asked, I had been lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize Nick had asked me a question. "What was that?" I asked, as I pulled the blanket covers over me.
