As soon as Nick and I made it to our Algebra class, we quickly found seats next to each other. "Thank you for coming to class early to pick out seats with me," I quietly told him, he grinned. "I have to, who else will I copy after in class?" he teased, I rolled my eyes. I started to pretend to get up, but he quickly grabbed the handle of my backpack and pulled me down. We both started to laugh, and then the teacher came into the room. He grabbed a dry erase marker and messily wrote his name on the board; Mr. Blackwood.

He greeted everyone, then started handing out tiny white pieces of paper. Mine had a number written down on it, and so did Nick's. "What does it mean?" I whispered, Nick shrugged. "I know you all are probably wondering what the meaning of the numbers are." he started, as he made his way back to the front of the class. He turned around, "If you look at your desk, you'll see there is a small number in the corner," he announced. I glanced at my desk, it said number 22. Nick had the number 10. "You're going to find your desk with the number written on that piece of paper," he finished, Nick and I looked at eachother. Disappointed, we thought that we'd be able to sit next to each other in Algebra.

Other students felt the same way, and there was a chorus of unhappy aws. "I know, I know. You guys can hate me all you want right now, but there's nothing wrong with making new friends. Right?" he questioned, when no one answered, he did. "That's exactly right," he earned a couple chuckles. Nate and I got up from our seats, and separated to find our new desk. Hopefully we'd be close to each other. Sadly, we were not. We were on the opposite side of the room, I sighed when I found my desk. Oh so lucky number 12.

Each desk was grouped with two, side by side. I looked at the number on the desk next to me, number 1. Who would sit next to me? Or hopefully, no one would. It was cool that Mr. Blackwood wanted us to make new friends, but I wasn't in the mood. I didn't need any new friends, I already had great friends. I gave Nick a face, he frowned back at me. Next to him was a girl who clearly had a crush on Nick, but he seemed to not take any notice.

Someone sat down next to me, I turned my head to see who it was. I was surprised to see Harvey next to me, "Hey Sabrina." he said, "Hey Harvey. Looks like we're gonna be desk buddies?" I asked, he chuckled as he leaned back on his seat. "Looks like it. Are you good at math?" he asked, I gave him a look. "What?" he asked, "I know I might look like a nerd and all, but I'm actually average at math." I admitted. He laughed, "I mean, you could copy me but I don't think it's a good idea. Good grades won't be guaranteed." I said, he was trying not to laugh.

"What's so funny?" I asked, confused. He leaned forward in his seat, and then put his red backpack down on the ground. "I'm actually pretty good at math, Sabrina. I was asking to let you know if you ever need help, you could always ask me," he stated, my face started to heat up. "Oh." I said, he grinned at me. "It's okay, a lot of people assume since I'm a jock. It's a stigma that we have to deal with, it affects two out of three jocks." he joked, I giggled a little.

When the bell rang, I started to get up from my seat. "Oh hey Sabrina, I was wondering if it would be okay if I get your number?" Harvey asked, while rubbing the back of his neck. "Oh?" I said, before I could ask another question he continued. "You know, in case I can't make it to school one day. You can let me know if I missed anything." he said, my eyes widened as I nodded my head. I wrote down my phone number on a small piece of notebook paper, and handed it to him.

When I walked out of the room, I found Nick waiting outside against the red lockers. "So how's your new desk buddy?" Nick asked, pouting. "Oh you know Harvey, he's cool." I said, he sighed. "How about you?" I asked, "I sit next to Lily, she's chill but sometimes she talks too much." he admitted. "You wanna know something funny though?" I asked, he looked at me. "Harvey asked for my number, but I think it has to be for emergencies like when he can't come to school or something." I said, "Seriously Sabrina? He's obviously interested." he said, "There's no way," I replied. "Why not?" he asked, "Because..."

Because I am not pretty enough to be liked by Harvey, he's a jock. As cliche as it sounds, he doesn't date shy choir girls. It was the truth though, Harvey has only ever dated cheerleaders. Besides, as long as I've known Harvey, I've never really ever been interested in him. Sure, he's handsome and all, but he just wasn't my type. "Because what?" he questioned, "Nothing. Go to class before you're late again," I said. "Psh, my teachers don't care," he said, but was already walking away. "Your parents care though," I reminded him. He didn't say anything, he just waved goodbye.

During lunch time, Nick was talking about how he wanted to join the football team. Dorcas eventually told the group that she wanted to try out for cheerleading. "You guys are literally made for each other," Ambrose said, we all laughed. "When are tryouts?" Pru asked, "In a couple weeks," Dorcas said, while picking at her food. "Everything okay Dorcas?" I asked, she sighed then put her plastic utensil down on top of the peas. "I guess I'm a little nervous about it, I really hope I can get in. My mom was a cheerleader before, and I want to follow in her footsteps." she said, I nodded my head.

"They'd be crazy not to accept you," I said, "Babe, you've got this. You're amazing and I've seen you practicing from next door." Nick said, she started to turn red but quickly chimed back. "Have you been watching me?" she playfully asked, he grinned a cheeky grin. "Okay love birds, you guys are disgustingly sweet. I am going to throw up if you guys keep at it." Ambrose announced, we all laughed. "Sorry," Dorcas apologized.

My phone dinged, and I was pleased to see that Cal had messaged back. "Oo, is that your boyfriend Sabrina?" Dorcas asked, I laughed a little. "It's actually my penpal, Cal." I admitted, "Whos it that?" she asked, "Someone Sabrina gets letters from, who is completely in love with her." Pru said, while writing something in her notebook. I gasped, "Pru!" I said, "What? It's true." she said, still not looking up. "How do you know he's in love with her?" Dorcas asked, I opened my mouth to speak, but Pru beat me to it. "Because, who even writes letters anymore," Pru defended, I rolled my eyes and playfully pushed Pru. She laughed, "C'mon Sabrina, when will you stop denying it?" she asked. "I'm not denying anything, and it's just emails. Not letters." I said, then read Cal's message.

I ignored as the group talked about Cal and I. What they didn't know was that Cal had a girlfriend, I didn't tell them much because they didn't need to know. The great thing about Cal and I's relationships was that almost everything was between us two. While Nick and I were best friends, Cal and I had a different and special type of relationship. He's the only person who knew that I had a crush on Nick before.

SABRINA!

Where is this coming from? What is the rush in getting into a relationship? Things that are rushed don't end well. It would make sense if you found someone that you liked, but you haven't. Right? The last time you liked a guy was Dorian, and that was for a week because then you found out he was gay. And then before that, you had a crush on your own best friend. So, if you're telling me you're trying to get into a relationship, I hope that that means you've started to like someone. Anyways, about school. I am actually a little anxious about it all, because I'm still not sure if I want to go to school to become a doctor or if I should go for engineering. So many things to think about it, such little time. Hope your first day of school is going well.

Your friend,

Cal
