Chapter 36

INUMAKI HERAKLES

Every fiber of his being told him that he was making a mistake. That he was wasting his life.

And yet his heart spoke a different tale than the rest of his body.

He hated Freya, hated her for what she had done. For what she had become? And yet he could not abandon her. For despite it all, he knew of what she had done for him as well.

Twisted as it was, he was not blind to her love for him. As dark and twisted as it was, it was love. And he did not know if he even felt a shred of it for her. Yet, it did not matter in the end.

She loved him. Loved him enough to ruin everything. Ruin herself.

She had taken a great risk when she had chosen to help Alfia give birth to a child. Using arcanum like that, blessing a babe still in a womb, was something risky, and yet she had taken that risk. The years afterward had been far better, with her acting as an older sister, often joining him in his little breaks from his mother's disastrous training.

And then it ended with that conflict. With Freya trying to take him into her familia. The Freya familia was young then, not as strong as it was today, and was demolished by Hera familia, and so began a curse and rivalry that ate away all that was good about her.

Their relationship, whatever it was, became strained, because of both Hera's and Freya's frayed relationship. He found himself at a crossroads, which soon enough ended in disaster as Hera familia lost all of its members to the campaign against the One-Eyed Black Dragon.

And the rest was history. The spark, whatever it was, then long buried in a slew of misunderstandings and past grudges.

And now he stood face to face with its accumulation.

Nidhogg was a giant beast; its shadow could cover a block of the entire city, yet it was still a monster. It was flesh and blood.

And if it was flesh and blood. It could be killed.

And he would kill it. He had to kill it.

For no other adventurer could stand a chance against it. Not yet.

He did not know for how long he had been fighting for, the understanding of hours and minutes had long faded, as his back hit the wall of Babel once again, making him scream in agony.

"AH!" and as blood came out of his mouth; he did not stop, gripping his spear even more tightly as he pushed himself off of the wall, jumping through the air as he roared at the beast in his own rage.

"GOSPEL!" he screamed, and the attack tore through the skies as it hit the gathering magic ball in the dragon's mouth.

BOOOM!

It blew up, but this was not nothing, the beast was relentless, and Inumaki pushed through the cloud of smoke as he pulled back his spear, pushing his magical power into it.

"GAE BOLG!" and threw it with all his might. The red spear raced through the air, and hit the beast in the eye, making it roar in agony as it swung its tail at him and he could brace himself for the impact, and yet he did not as he let it carry him, as he clung to it with all his might, chanting as the dragon writhed in the air because of pain.

His body was searing with pain, his magic was imbalanced, his bones broken, and his injuries, he had no account of them.

And yet he fought. He fought and pushed himself up and onto the body of the beast as he climbed and climbed until he reached the tail of its wing. Finally, he reached the end of his chant, and so as a magical circle spread underneath him, he screamed the name of the magic belonging to the Elf Queen.
