Chapter 27

GOJOUNO KAGUYA

Kaguya sat watching Alise and the Hestia familia sitting there napping half drunk, as the night dawned. And seeing their drunk faces and the bottles of empty ale and booze all along the floor was warning enough of the hangover all of them were going to suffer in the morning.

It was the reason she herself refrained from drinking, apart from her usual averseness to anything that may mess with her decision-making ability. She liked to remain sober, and she was not the only one as she looked at the elf beside her.

"It is a real shame that you could not join Inumaki-sama on the expedition?" she said, and Ryuu nodded.

"Indeed, I had hoped to see it all to the end myself, and yet I could not. Now, I must leave it all to him once more. It just does not sit right with me." That was true. They all had burdened him with too much already, too much.

It was time enough that they began to pull their own weight, but for that to happen, they needed to progress. And for that, they needed to join a new familia, and though nothing was certain yet all of them had recently had sat down to talk about it.

In the end, the only viable option was for the goddess to slumber in Alise's arms.

"What do you think of Alise's opinion?" she asked, Ryuu, who perked up at her question and turned her gaze in the same direction as her.

"It has merits," she answered, even as her fits balled up.

"But honestly, it doesn't sit right with me," Ryuu added, and she could see it. Afterall, Ryuu was the most stubborn of them, even though Kaguya's own thoughts on the matter were much different.

"What do you think?" she asked her and Kaguya's lips thinned as she looked to the ceiling and gave her own answer.

"Truth is, I still care for Astarea-sama, but there is something I care about even more, someone who has been carrying our burden for far too long," she answered as she thought of everything Inumaki-sama had done for them.

"And though it would pain me to lose the memento I carry on my back, I believe it is time for us to move on," and it was Alise's thinking as well as Lyra's.

It was why they had thought to ask Hestia-sama if they could join her familia as soon as Inumaki-sama returned from the expedition.

Moreover, the said Goddess reminded them all of Astarea-sama, and though she lacked much of the conviction and judicial qualities of her, Hestia-sama carried an equally well-intentioned and kind heart, making it much easier for her to support her.

"That is why..." and suddenly she stopped as her eyes narrowed, as she saw the ceiling crack.

BOOOM!

"Alise! Ryuuu!" she screamed as she reached for her sword and swung it out in a single swift motion.

"Issen!" she screamed as she cut through the air, and found herself right beside the slumbering form of the Goddess of the heareth, as she blocked the swing of an axe from a fully armored adventurer.

CLANK!

And her blade shook in her hand as she fell to her knees and got a good look at the behemoth of an adventurer who was attacking them, and her eyes widened as she recognized her.

"Phryne Jamil," she gasped and saw those eyes widen as she parried the attack and pushed her back as Alise tried to join in the attack.

"Huh! What?" the Goddess finally woke up and looked around in perplexity as Kaguya felt many adventurers surround them.
