I took a deep, shuddering breath and nodded, and my heart pounded hard and fast in my chest, leaping into my throat every so often and making it harder for me to keep my emotions to myself.
Oh Gods...
A sense of longing and acceptance filled my body when he welcomed me to his pack, his family, and I nodded before I cleared my throat and pulled away, blinking back tears that wanted to fall.
Jason bit back a small whine and flattened his ears closer to his head, and worry flashed through his eyes when he saw me trying not to cry. He didn't say a word that I could understand while he looked at Jill before he looked at me.
"The Alpha is wondering if you are ok," Jill said, her voice barely above a whisper and filled with pain and sadness. "You look like you want to cry."
I shook my head and wiped my eyes, getting frustrated with myself for being about to cry over something so minuscule like this when it had been years since I had last cried. "It's nothing," I said and cleared my throat before I shook my head and pursed my lips in annoyance. "I just had never belonged anywhere, if that makes sense, and to actually belong somewhere and feel accepted is new to me." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line.
And I thought I would end up alone and without a family of my own... I silently added while I bit the inside of my lip and tucked my head closer to my chest. I wasn't sure if I was going to ever have a family or not.
Jason looked at me and then looked at Jill. He said something to her, and she slowly nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line.
"Can you explain what you mean?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question while she studied me. "Please?"
I opened my mouth to tell her how I was feeling before I closed it when no sound came out. My cheeks turned red, and I couldn't help but shake my head, with my cheeks turning red while I blushed. "No," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I am sorry, but I can not. It's..." I furrowed my brows and tucked my head closer to my chest before I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head, pursing my lips in annoyance. "I can't."
I don't know how...
Jason and Jill looked at each other before they looked at me. They didn't say a word while they looked at each other, talking to each other in a way that I was curious about and wondered if I would ever know.
I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet, and the Alpha turned to look at me with a raised eyebrow. "Are we free to go, Alpha?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Or was there anything else you needed from us?"
Jason looked at Jill before he looked at me again, slowly blinking. He wanted to know if I wanted to see where I was free to go with him by my side or if I wanted to go back to the house and unpack.
"Jill?" I asked and looked at Jill, breaking eye contact with the Alpha while I looked at her, raising an eyebrow in question.
Jill offered me a tight smile and grabbed her steering wheel tighter. "The Alpha is wondering if you would like to go explore some places or to go back to the house and unpack what we had gotten for you," she said.
I frowned and slowly blinked, not saying a word. I knew that Jason wouldn't hurt me, no matter how much the pack would hate it, but that didn't mean I trusted him one bit.
Especially since he was the Alpha of the pack...
"It doesn't matter to me either way," Jill said and shook her head, biting back a small smile. "That decision is up to you."
I slowly nodded and furrowed my brows while I bit the inside of my lip. "Do you know when Jason will be coming over, or if he will be coming over with news?" I asked, changing the subject. "Is my group safe?"
Were there any more deaths that I could have prevented if I were there..?
My heart skipped a beat before it pounded hard and fast in my chest while I shivered, and I bit the inside of my lip while I flexed my fingers before I clenched my hands into fists.
The urge to run and go see them to make sure that they were safe was strong, and it took all of my self-control not to follow my instincts and "disappear."
But I knew that I wouldn't be able to get far...
Jason growled and flattened his ears close to the back of his head. He nudged me to go back into the car, and my throat went dry while I looked at him.
"The Alpha wants you to go back into the car," Jill said and looked at him before she looked at me. She bit back a small smile while she tucked her head closer to her chest. "He will show you around later."
I pressed my lips into a thin line and slowly nodded, biting the inside of my lip. I didn't say a word and took a step back away from him, my whole body shaking.
"Jason will come with an update by the end of the day," Jill said, and I looked at her while I bit the inside of my lip and stared at her with wide eyes. She bit back a small smile and tucked her head closer to her chest while she stared at me, and her eyes turned warm. "Go ahead and get into the car."
I bit the inside of my lip and slowly nodded before I did what I was told to do and got into the car. "Do you think that the Alpha will be able to show me places later?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, even though I knew that he could hear me.
"Him or the Beta Male will show you around," Jill said and nodded in confirmation. "The Luna or the Beta Female might be able to show you around, but that is up to either the Alpha or the Beta Male." She rolled her eyes playfully at the Alpha, and Jason snorted and shrugged.
I sighed and nodded before I cleared my throat while I shifted in my seat. "Ok, then thank you, Alpha," I said and bowed my head just a tad. "I hope to see you again soon, then."
Jason bit back a small smile and nodded in agreement. He sent Jill a look that had her submitting before he looked at me and bowed his head in respect.
I hesitated before I bowed my head lower, not meeting his gaze. "I will see you soon, Alpha," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Jason nodded and left without another word, running in the same direction that we were supposed to go in and in the direction of Jill and Justin's house.
My heart skipped a beat before it pounded hard and fast in my chest while I took a deep, shuddering breath before I released it with a small whoosh while I watched after him.
Did that mean he actually had news for me, or was this something different..?
"Blaire?" Jill asked with worry in her voice. She cleared her throat and placed her hand on my leg, and I jumped and turned to look at her with wide eyes.
She frowned and tucked her head closer to her chest while she studied me. "Are you ok?"
I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair before I shook my head and cleared my throat while I shifted in my seat. "I don't know, Jill," I said, honestly while I pursed my lips in annoyance. "I don't know."
Jill frowned and slowly nodded, pressing her lips into a thin line. "Go ahead and put on your seatbelt, Dear. After that, we will go back to the house and see what news there is for you, if there is anything for you. Ok?"
I bit back a tired smile and slowly nodded while I did what I was told to do by putting the seat belt over my body and closed the door. "Ok, Jill," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Let's go home."
And with that, Jill closed her door, put her seat belt on, and started the car before she started to drive back to the house that I was supposed to be living in for the time being.
Oh Gods, save me...
