Garrison
The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the room. I blinked my eyes open, taking a second to adjust before I realized where I was—and who I was with.
Jade was curled up beside me, her face peaceful, her breathing soft. Her hair was tousled, spilling across the pillow like some kind of masterpiece. I couldn't help but smile. Waking up next to her felt... right.
For a moment, I didn't move, just taking it all in—the warmth of her beside me, the quiet hum of the world outside. It was perfect. Too perfect.
Eventually, I carefully slipped out of bed, making sure not to wake her. I grabbed a pair of sweatpants from the chair and padded into the kitchen, the smell of coffee from last night still faint in the air.
The apartment was quiet, the kind of quiet that felt cozy instead of lonely. I opened the fridge, surveying my options. Eggs, milk, butter... pancakes it was.
I pulled out a bowl and started mixing the batter, the clink of the whisk breaking the silence. As I worked, I thought about her. About how easy last night had been—laughing over dinner, talking about everything and nothing. And later, how being with her felt like everything I didn't know I'd been missing.
The sound of soft footsteps behind me pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to see Jade standing in the doorway, wrapped in a blanket, her hair still a mess and her eyes half-closed. She looked adorable.
"Good morning," I said, smiling.
She yawned, leaning against the doorframe. "You're making breakfast?"
"Figured it was the least I could do," I said, holding up the bowl. "Pancakes okay?"
She nodded, a sleepy smile spreading across her face. "You're already setting the bar really high, you know."
I laughed, flipping the first pancake onto the griddle. "Just trying to earn some points."
Jade crossed the kitchen, standing beside me as she peeked into the pan. Her shoulder brushed mine, and even that small touch sent a warmth through me.
"You didn't have to do this," she said softly.
I glanced at her, taking in the way her eyes still held that early-morning softness. "I wanted to."
She tilted her head, studying me for a moment before leaning up to kiss my cheek. "You're too good to me, Garrison."
I shook my head, flipping the pancake. "You make it easy."
She laughed, the sound filling the apartment, and suddenly I didn't feel nervous or worried about anything. In that moment, standing there with her, flipping pancakes in her tiny kitchen, everything felt... perfect. Like this was exactly where I was meant to be.
