Hailie's P.O.V
I snuggled deeper into the pillow, sighing in content at the softness. I couldn't remember where the pillow had come from. Now that I think about it, how could I have gotten a pillow in the middle of the woods. My eyes snapped open and I bolted upright. I was in a dark, spacious room, lying on the biggest bed I'd laid eyes on. The walls were bare and the floor was spotless. There was a vanity near the window and a huge flat-screen television hung from the wall. My heart rate increased a few notches as I took in my surroundings. I definitely wasn't in the woods. I began to panic, thinking that my pack had caught me but that thought was quickly banished as realization came to me. Memories from the previous day came rushing at me. I gasped as I struggled to breath. It couldn't be true. Flinging the covers to the side, I jumped out of bed only to land with a hard thud on my face. Blood spurted from my nose as I tried to stand upright again. I couldn't. Every time I tried to stand, my legs would shake like twigs and collapse under me. Blood stained my shirt as I lay crumbled on the floor, useless. Tears sprang to my eyes and a small sob escaped past my lips. I didn't know where I was, I didn't know how I got here, I was scared, tired, and I wanted answers.
"He...hello?" I called out tentatively. I didn't know if anyone was home or if I was here alone. Before I could call out again, I heard footsteps racing up stairs and fear ripped through me. I scrambled on my knees and took cover behind the bed, ignoring the blood coating my face and clothes. The footsteps came closer to the door and I bunched up into myself trying to make myself as small as possible. The person stopped at the door and I watched as the doorknob slowly twisted. The door was pushed open gently and then, there before me stood the guy from the woods. The one with eyes so grey they looked white. I swallowed as an unknown feeling came over me. I watched as his eyes scanned the room and saw his eyes widen in what seemed like horror as he took in the little puddles of blood on the floor from my nose bleed. His eyes followed the trail until he reached me. I shook in fear as his eyes landed one me.
"Hailie?" he spoke.
I scooted back farther behind the bed, trying to put as much distance between us as possible.
"Hailie what happened? Are you hurt? Who hurt you?!" His concern was underlined with anger. He continued to come closer and closer towards me. The closer he got the more fearful I became. Was he here to kill me? I thought. Why was he being nice? Am I a hostage? Was he going to send me back to my old pack?
That last thought sent my fear into overdrive and I saw black dots cloud my vision. I felt lightheaded and weak. I heard my name being called and felt myself being lifted by a strong pair of arms. I couldn't see what was right in front of me through the haze clouding my vision.
"Please don't send me back." I pleaded with him. I would rather be his hostage than be sent back to that horrible pack. Tears sprang into my eyes and my panic escalated to the point where i couldn't breath. My heart pounded against my chest and i felt the world world tilt a little. My body trembled in fear and I began to lose feeling. I gasped over and over trying to get air into my stubborn lungs.
"Hailie! Hailie!! VERONICA!!" I heard the guy shout. Evan. That was his name. I remember he'd told me in the woods before everything went black. I faintly heard the door being flung open and another pair of a hands were on me. They poked and prodded. They pulled my eyelids open and shined a bright light into them.
"She's going into shock" I heard a woman say. I barely felt the needle pierce my thin skin as strong arms restrained me. I felt myself calming down and was able to breath normally. My heartbeat slowed its pace and I closed my eyes. "That should do it." I heard the doctor say. "She's going to have a lot of these in the time to come. You must be very careful around her. Her mind and body are both damaged and shes going to need lots of attention, love, and care for her to get better." Struggling to open my eyelids I saw her. She stood before Evan with a look of sympathy and fear evident on her face. Why the fear I briefly thought. That was until i caught sight of Evans face. He looked absolutely livid.
"You said she'd be fine after a little rest" he growled out. I could see the woman shake at the icy tone in his voice. Was he going to hurt her? Memories of my old alpha flashed in my mind and I covered my eyes. My movement seemed to catch their attention because the next thing I knew, I was in Evan's lap and he was stroking my hair. My eyes widened at the closeness of our bodies and I immediately felt myself tense up.
"Hailie, do you mind telling me what happened? Why there's blood everywhere?" the pack doctor asked me gently.
I wondered why she cared. I looked up at Evan and saw him looking at me in curiosity. I felt a blush creep up my neck at what he must be seeing. I knew I looked like death with my matted black hair, bloody face and puffy eyes.
There was a long moment of silence as they both stared expectantly at me, waiting for my answer. I felt panic bubble up inside me as they continued to stare. The silence stretched on as my panic continued to build up inside of me. My breathing turned to gasping and i couldn't think straight.
"Whoa there honey. Slow down.," the doctor said taking hold of my strembling shoulders. "You don't have to answer but i want you to listen real carefully to me, ok?"
I nodded faintly while working to get my breathing under control.
"Good," she said and continued, "your body is in an extremely fragile state. You need as much rest and nutrition as possible. You should avoid anything that could possibly hurt you. Movement should be limited until your strong enough to stand and move without pain."
Her voice was calm and soothing and I felt like a little child. I knew I wasn't healthy. You could count my ribs through my skin, my cheeks were hollow and sunken in, my arms and legs looked like baby tree branches and I had multiple bruises on my body from many different things. I looked scary and i knew it. What the doctor was telling me wasn't something I didn't already know. But still, I nodded my head in understanding and once again looked at the floor. "I'll just clean up your nose and be on my way," she said. "By the way, my name is Veronica, but everyone calls me Ronnie. Its an honor to meet you." I glanced up at her in shock. Her word were sincere and I couldn't detect any underlying mockery. Why was it an honor to meet me? People are never honored to meet a rogue. Especially an ugly, messed up, malnourished rogue like me. I had a feeling I was missing something and I had a feeling it was big. I mean, why else haven't i been killed. Rogues were never spared once caught trespassing on another packs territory. Were they just toying with me, wanting me to believe they wouldn't kill me and then out of nowhere rip my head off. I shivered at the thought. Either way, i was going to die. If not from my unhealthy state than from this pack. I wasn't sure how I felt about that just yet.
