Evan's POV

I ran my hands through my hair for the thousandth time as I paced the length of my room. I could hear my sister & mate talking behind the bathroom door & I once again cursed the existence of the soundproof door.  My heart beat erratically as I thought of her sweet musical voice. I was whipped and she didnt even know who I was.  I looked at the clock.  Eliza she was taking her time,  I thought,  with annoyance.  My wolf was getting restless because our mate wasnt in sight.  The little incident from earlier had us both on edge.  Seeing her covered in blood had caused ice cold fear to course through me.  I wanted nothing more than to take her in my arms and make her all better but before I could she went into shock. Her asking me not to not send her back confused the shit out of me. Back where?  To the woods?  My mate was a mystery to me and I couldnt wait to figure her out.  With that thought in mind,  I knocked softly on the bathroom room door.  I was never much of a patient person.  Eliza's muffled voice came through the door calling out something about rushing perfection. Annoyance swept through me & opened my mouth to reply when the door was swung open.

My jaw dropped to the floor & words failed me.

Hailie was… breathtaking

She looked like a completely new person.  She radiated pure beauty and I couldn't tear my eyes away. My eyes raked hungrily over her from head to toe. All the blood in me headed south & It took a while for me to notice the the hand waving in front of my face.  Blinking a few times,  I turned my attention to Eliza,  who had a knowing smile on her face.  "Well, " she said,  "looks like my work here is done.  You kids have fun! " With a sly wink in my direction,  she turned and left the room closing the door gently behind her.

I turned my attention back to Hailie. She stood with her head bowed, hiding her face and she was fidgeting nervously.  Hell, I was nervous too. I didnt know how to approach her or what to say for that matter. Me, the strongest and most feared alpha on this whole continent, was nervous and speechless. A humorless chuckle escaped past my lips, causing her to look up  in confusion. A look of hurt crossed her face, then it was gone. Her face was cleared of all emotion and she squared her shoulders and looked me right in my eye. A look of determination mixed with someting else swam in emerald green eyes. Fear? Before I could place it, she spoke.

"Are you laughing at me, Alpha?"

I blinked in shock. I rarely laughed. Before i could open my mouth to say so a loud rumbling erupted through the room. A fiery red blush swept over my mates whole body and her arms flew around her stomach as if to silence it. Ahh, my little mate was hungry. Well so was I, but not for food.  I sighed knowing my hunger wouldnt be satisfied until Hailie was in good health. I stepped cautiously towards her, holding up my hands to show that i meant no harm.

"You're hungry" I stated with a smile.

She smiled in embarassment.

. Her heavenly scent wafted around me as I smiled down at her. She was beautiful. Thick lashes fromed her luminous green eyes. Her long raven black her fell down her back in loose waves. Looking back at her face, I noticed that she looked uncomfortable. Shit.

Stepping back,  i cleared my throat.

"What would you like to eat. Eggs? toast? bacon? waffles?"

She looked down again, and began fidgetion with her hands again.  Still looking down, she took a cautious step toward me. and then another and then a few more until she was standing almost directly in front of me. Her scent clouded my senses and  I stood completely still, not wanting to frighten her. She stopped fidgeting and took a deep breath as if to steady herself. Her head snapped up and her eyes met with mine.

Her soft voice filled my ears.

" I'm a rogue. You were suppose to kill me on sight. why am I here? why am I not hated by you're pack. I am weak. A disgrace. Yet everyone whom I've meet so far has treated me so kindly. Please tell me why?

Her eyes swam with confusion and conflict and I stood frozen. I couldnt tell her. She was already weak.  What if she didn't want a mate. She already didn't trust me. That was obvious just in the way that she shook like a leaf as she stood before me. I just couldnt. Not yet. Before I could  think of a reasonable excuse her stomach growled again, saving me. I sighed and quickly stepped back.

"Listen, you're hungry. I'll go get you some food and we'll maybe talk about this later, when you're feeling better.'

Annoyance was evident in her face and before she could reply, I stepped out the door and shut it gently behind me.

Man that was close.

Hailie was already weak.  Her wolf couldnt even detect me as her mate for fucks sakes!  Frustration coursed through me & my arm swung out and smashed into the wall, adding to the various holes that needed repairing.  Sighing,  I headed towards the kitchen. For now,  I just needed to focus on making my mate better.  She was weak physically & mentally & I was going to do everything in my power to make her better.

Reaching the kitchen,  I noticed that it was empty.  Which was extremely rare in this house.  Werewolves ate almost nonstop.  Shifting took a  shitload of energy so we constantly ate to keep up.  However,  we are by no means overweight.  Hell,  most of us look like we live at the gym.

Looking around,  I notice plates piled high in  the sink & figure that my pack members were just following my orders.  I'd told them to steer clear until my mate was better. Her being bombarded by a bunch of rowdy wolves in her state wasn't ideal. I'd also told them that Hailie was not to know she was their Luna.

Not yet.

& anyone who spilled the beans would surely face serious repricussions. I didnt acquire my reputation from just strangers.

Rummaging through the fridge,  I pulled out some sausages,  peppers,  eggs,  & butter. I thanked the heavens that my mother taught me how to cook. She was a a no nonsense woman & if she felt that her only son & future alpha needed to know how to cook,  then god help anyone who tried to stop her. Shaking my head,  I pulled out the necessary equipment to create my killer omlete.  Thinking of my mom always put me in a dark mood. Her & my fathers death was an extremely sore subject. I.hardly if ever talk about it.  The floor upstairs creaked,  causing me to remember my hungry little mate.  Smiling softly, I tied my hair back, & set to work.
