CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

HUGE HUGE HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Not only will there be a post-ping channel for when I update the story, but there will also be places to share your art, memes, ask questions, voice chats, and more! I'll be hosting contests and stuff there too eventually, which I'm very excited for :)

This chapter is much shorter today, since I spent a lot of the time that I typically use for writing in order to work on things for the server. Of course, once the server was finished, then I became insanely busy. Following that, I ended up having a super difficult time fleshing out the chapter for some reason... So, I chose to take a little break. Now that I've had some rest, I think we should be good lol.

Just a warning, though; I'm a bit concerned that people won't like how MC behaves over the next few chapters. I try my best to convey that MC has many frustrating faults and flaws (particularly with how much she overthinks and assumes), but that it's all build-up for character growth and satisfying results. It makes the arcs a little more interesting rather than just reciting what everyone already knows happens, and I always do my best to make up for it by leading up to a fulfilling climax/conclusion, just the same as I'll be doing for this arc. Hopefully you guys have seen that from the start of the story up until now. It's important to remember that our girl isn't perfect, because nobody is, but she's working on it!! And the same can be said for Luffy as well!

"It's just like surfing... It's just like surfing..." I chanted the words in hopes to ease my terrified trembling, though in reality it's not like I actually knew how to surf. Clutching the sides of our raft with white-knuckles, the sea-spray splattered against my face and arms as the water lashed at our backs, the raft barely holding itself together under the strain of shredding through the surging water... This was sorta like surfing, you could say.

"Yahoo!" Luffy cheered at the head of the raft, legs spread into a widened, crouching stance with a hand on his hat. For him, this was a breeze – he was a natural when it came to the water-sport... Sucks that he couldn't swim, though. "This is awesome!"

I was practically parallel to the raft, smack-dab in the middle with Sanji instructing me to stay low as he knelt at the very end and braced for a rough impact. Neither of us were having nearly as good a time as my soulmate was.

How did we get here? Well, let's rewind for a sec...

Once I had been sufficiently reamed out by Nami according to her standards (she was upset that I hadn't interfered before Luffy and Foxy fired their guns, thus officially starting the Davy Back Fight), the contest was already in full swing. There was an entire area dedicated purely for carnival games, food, announcements for the upcoming rounds – plus, the hotspot served as a prep-area prior to each round.

We would play three different matches, in which the winner of said match would select a crew member of their choosing from the opposing team. The chosen crew member would then swear to their new captain undying loyalty, and could only be retrieved once the opposite team won another match and took them back. However, there was another option as well. Instead of merely taking a crew member, the winner could choose to take the opposing team's jolly roger flag. This was only meant to add insult to injury, as taking a pirates jolly roger was basically like defacing them, or dishonoring them. It was a dirty move, according to Robin, since the losing team could never wave their flag again if they were unable to get it back by the end of the three rounds.
