I walked out of the room and saw Marvel. I couldn't help myself from bursting out laughing. He was dressed in a purple shirt covered with glitter. The sleeves of the shirt were also purple, but they were made out of purple fur. He had a fluffy pink jacket on that matched my cape.
"Shut up," he said with a smile.
"Nice costume," I said while I was still laughing.
We were both whisked down to the bottom level of the Remake Center. The Opening Ceremonies were going to start any minute. We were rushed into our chariot because we would be the first to go out. The opening music started to play, and the massive doors slid open. Our snow-white horses started to pull the chariot. The crowd roared the moment we come out. I looked at the screen and saw us. We looked like two piles of pink fluff. Oh well. At least the crowd liked us. More and more chariots came out and all of sudden, we weren't the center of attention any more. It was District 12.
The crowd started screaming and chanting Katniss and Peeta. I looked at the screen and every camera was pointing towards them. It looked like they were on fire. I hated to admit it, but it did look really cool. As the Opening Ceremonies went on, the cameras were still locked on District 12. I felt like shouting, "You know there are other people out here besides them!" I waved and blew a kiss to the crowd every once in a while, desperately trying to get the attention back on us. When that didn't work, I glared at one of the camera men. He seemed to get the signal because he started to show a couple other tributes once in a while.
The twelve chariots filled the City Circle, and President Snow did his official welcome from the balcony above us. When he was done, we disappeared into the training center as the doors closed behind us. Most of the tributes were glaring at Katniss and Peeta for stealing the spotlight.
"Nice job out there," said Felicity.
"Nice job? We were only on the cameras for a minute!" I said.
"Well, you still looked gorgeous in that minute!" she said.
"Thanks," I said sarcastically. I shot District 12 a dirty look before going on the elevator that would take me to my room in the Capitol.
My room was gigantic! It had so many gadgets that I had no idea how to work. You could even say what type of food you wanted from a menu into a mouthpiece, and it magically appeared in front of you in less than a minute. I walked around my room for a while, trying to figure out how to work things when Cordelia called me to dinner. I walked into the dining room and saw that everyone was already there. Marvel, Gloss, Cashmere, Cordelia, Felicity, and Clore (Marvel's stylist) were digging into the assortment of delicacies on the table.
I sat down and was immediately served with salads, soups, pastas, breads, and pretty much everything of every kind! At first, I took small sips of some sort of green soup that was filled with vegetables, but then I started to try all kinds of things. When I was decently full, we started to talk to our mentors.
"So, tomorrow you'll be training and that means you can show off your skills. What are you guys good at?" asked Gloss.
"Spears," said Marvel.
"And you?" asked Cashmere.
"Well... uh... nothing really," I muttered.
"Come on! You have to have some talent," said Gloss.
"Does being charming work?" I asked.
"No," said Gloss. "How about knives? Are you good with them?"
"No," I said.
"Bow?" asked Gloss.
"No."
"Sword?"
"No."
"Spear?"
"No."
"Hand to hand combat?"
"Does fighting with my brother count?" I asked.
"Considering you aren't trying to kill him, then no," said Gloss.
"Okay then, you can say it. I'm useless," I said.
"Well, try to pick up as much as you can from training. That will help," said Cashmere.
"I hope..." I said quietly. I went back into my room and flew onto my bed. I laid there for what felt like hours, just staring at the ceiling, hoping somehow I could appear in my room back home. I was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," I said.
"Hey," said Marvel as he sat next to me on the bed.
"Hey, what are doing here?" I asked while sitting up.
"Just wanted to talk to someone. Do something. Get out of that room that was once another tribute's room. Another tribute that probably died," said Marvel.
"I never really thought about it that way," I said getting off the bed. I was kind of freaked out by the fact that probably tons of people had slept in that exact bed. And now those people are probably dead. We stood in silence for a few minutes. There was so much to say, yet there wasn't.
"Glimmer... I want you to know that I'm going to do everything I can to bring you back home," he said.
"Don't... no, no don't do that! You aren't risking your life for me. You can't." I said.
"Well, I am. It would hurt me even more if I came home without you, knowing that I couldv'e done something to save you. That I let you die!" he said.
"And you think that it wouldn't be the same for me?" I asked.
"No... I just... I...."
"You what?" I asked, confused. Before I knew it, our lips were touching and I had no time to react. What was he doing!? He's in love with Clara! NOT me! Or was he? Why wasn't I pulling away!? I quickly pulled back and yelled at him. "Marvel! I'm not Clara!"
"I... I'm sorry... I just... I... I had..." he struggled to find the right words and just gave up and walked out the door.
"Marvel, wait," I said. He kept on walking and didn't look back.
